At current NS Power rates, on paper it costs $0.06 to charge my ebike from empty (I probably use ~20% of a charge on a heavy commuting day, so let's say $0.01 per day) Or, 1-2 Timmies runs per year in transportation costs, if you're measuring in Canadian.

Wait, so AfD support is almost exactly 1:1 with Soviet control? Down to the occupation zones within Berlin?

Just finishing a book that mentions a MAGA-type steelworker at Algoma Steel in the Soo snubbing Trudeau when he came to announce a $470 grant to update that mill. That guy can kiss his job goodbye.

Trump thinks he can use tariffs to exact tribute from dependent nations. It won’t work. Trade and commerce is run by smart people all over the world. They’ll find work-arounds. We trusted the US on the FTA and NAFTA. We should not make that mistake again.

Canada is woefully unprepared for a 25 percent across the board Trump tariff that is coming, if not today, then soon. We need to prepare, and fast. Here’s how: thehub.ca/2025/01/20/ken…

You’d think people don’t want to live in pods. But when you suggest policies which would provide meaningful alternatives to the pods, they become very agitated. Even angry.

Other than the obvious—eliminating interprovincial trade barriers, killing dairy supply management, allowing for foreign competition in telecom and domestic air travel, etc.—I would spend Ken's $100 billion on 1) updating the National Building Code to reduce vertical circulation requirements, 2) updating the CMHC MLI Select program to eliminate the affordability (below-market rate) criteria, 3) introducing a 1031-like exchange, and 4) paying Provinces to harmonize with the new NBC and to upzone their municipalities. Improving housing policy would reduce the cost of living and create many new jobs for tariff-affected (mostly male) workers.

@stphnmaher We should have diversified our economy away from the US a decade ago. But the 2nd best time is now.

Even if Trump was just acting like an Atlantic City casino developer trying to put the muscle on a supplier, issuing frightening but empty threats, he has done permanent damage to the relationship.

@AlanMCole @RiverTamYDN And at least for my job, I'm both the only person here who can 1) code and 2) would know what instructions to give a LLM even if I couldn't. So this sounds like more of a productivity enhancer on my end.

@RiverTamYDN Probably needs to be a very precise set of instructions, too, to make sure that the AI gives you exactly the desired behavior.

@evolutionarypsy And that probably make sense if you're somewhat younger and can plausibly turn the harassment to your advantage in some way. But if you're north of 60, it mostly takes the form of "maybe I'll torture you until you die, who knows?"

@evolutionarypsy tbf, I think this has less to do with actual convictions than the prospect of using the federal courts to essentially harass people for years on end for public consumption.

Trudeau let the problem of housing shortages drag on for so long without doing anything that it looks like his party will get wiped out in the next election. Parties will destroy themselves rather than allow more housing.
M. Nolan Gray 🥑@mnolangray

The lack of urgency from a lot of politicians on housing affordability is wild to me. This is the single most important item in a family's budget. It determines almost everything in life. And yet there has been so little reform.
