Everyone talks about Nvidia. But the real chokepoint? Memory.
AI models are so hungry for data that the chips doing the "thinking" spend most of their time just waiting for memory to feed them fast enough. Solve that, and you unlock everything.
Three companies control that bottleneck: SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron.
Together they're projected to make 2-3x what Meta earns in 2026. Getting a new competitor up to speed would take $30-50 billion and a decade.

Every time you use an AI tool, two things happen: it reads your prompt, then it generates a response. Sounds simple, but under the hood they couldn't be more different.
That gap is exactly what two of the biggest deals in AI this year are trying to solve. Nvidia acquiring Groq for $20 Billion and Cerebras partnering with AWS got covered as separate news stories.
Chris argues they're actually the same bet, and that whoever controls the routing layer between them controls the margin.

One of the biggest questions for AI startups right now: should you build your own model, or keep using the APIs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others?
@tanayj has a clear answer in his latest Substack newsletter, and it's more nuanced than "yes" or "no."
He breaks down:
→ Why some companies (like Intercom and Cursor) are training their own specialized models
→ The real risks of going this route (hint: a new base model can wipe out months of work overnight)
→ When it actually makes sense to start, and what to do before you get there
Short version: most early-stage AI companies shouldn't be training yet. But you should be collecting the right data now so you're ready when the time comes.

Last week we rang the Nasdaq Closing Bell!
@DustHQ was ranked #2 on the 2026 Enterprise Tech 30, Early Stage, and Wing VC and Nasdaq invited the ET30 companies to NYC to celebrate.
Seeing Dust's name on the Nasdaq tower was surreal when not too long ago @spolu and I were just two people convinced that having the right context at the right moment enables better decisions, and then built a product around that conviction.
It doesn't change the fact that there's so much still to be done. Everything is still high variance, but it does make me grateful for the team that got us here. The sheer energy and care they put into the work is the only reason any of this is real and why I know we have a shot at what comes next.
