@MSOElevator I called in sick every Tuesday of senior year to go work a 10-12 hour shift climbing trees. Missed almost all my AP stats classes and would make them up after school on different days. I worked consistent 80 hour weeks that summer. Went to college with $30k+ saved up.

I’m 20. My land clearing business has done $159k in profit so far this year. Been away from X for a while, so here’s the recap: > hated first year of undergrad > decided to do my own thing > started a stump grinding business in June 2025 > did $20k in month one > realized it was a bad biz to scale > started running ads for land clearing > prebooked a ton of work, took on $180k in loans for a truck, trailer, skid steer, and mulcher > taught myself how to run everything on job one > screwed up a lot, but still did $37k in month one > tested ads in another market and thought the numbers were way better (they weren’t) > moved two hours from everyone I knew to live with my gf > hired myself out of the field in February > now added a second machine, sales arborist, and admin It’s been a knife fight, and I’m sure I don’t know the half of it yet. @JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder Cnbc put out a good article a couple years back about how inaccurate CPI is. 2022's inflation alone was really over 20%. But even going with CPI we're at relatively low numbers. And higher numbers mean more taxes for roads 🤣 so he came full circle saying they will go higher

This is genius A city noticed that the highway was full But the two train tracks in the middle barely got used (only one train every 25 minutes) So they’re replacing the train tracks with two HOV lanes for cars This will immediately fix the traffic and provide an easier commute Smart way to adjust capacity

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder And as for private roads. Certainly there are examples of private winning out on smaller roads. Major highways, even when private, are essentially government controlled through regulations and licensing so they may only be private in name.

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder say as if it is fact that cars are the least efficient. But your calculations ignore so much. One could say horses are efficient than cars with reductionist ridiculous math and ignoring variables such as the value of people's time, freedom, comfort etc.

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder Yes, it is cheap as hell. If your rent was slashed 75% in the last 10 years ago and then doubled (being half what it used to generally cost) would you be saying rent is high? It's a narrative. Simple as that. If your reality testing is so bad you can't admit this..

@WisdomConquer @bankertobuilder The price of oil is up $25 per barrel just this week alone (the WTI Crude Oil rate- which is the value that guides US gas prices). and is expected to get up to the April highs very soon- so yeah, the price of oil is high.

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder Subsidized means partially free. The more subsidized the more you change the demand and unoptimize here. Also I'm sure you've heard privatizing roads don't work 1000 times. That doesn't make it true.

@WisdomConquer @bankertobuilder Subsidized doesn’t mean free. Travellers absolutely do pay and a good amount on longer journeys. If you want roads “optimized”- you want roads to work for all rather then just cars (as that just adds to the traffic). And no- privatizing roads just makes conditions worse.

It's like that part from 1984 where the main character comes across a photo that he is supposed to burn that shows the party lie.

US extraction costs were $55 per barrel at that time so $40 a barrel was unsustainable for US production. /1

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder low gas prices. And yes, inflation adjusted gas prices are low as hell. Oil was as high (inflation adjusted as $400 per barrel before). Still in a couple states the gas and vehicle taxes pay for themselves even despite this.

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder Trains (aside from freight) are known to be heavily subsidized. The idea that there's demand for free shit does not add but subtracts from an argument of optimization. Highways are way closer to par even with wasteful government spending (they should be private) and ridiculous1/

@BobbyNSteve1 @zokrr @bankertobuilder Basic increase in supply leading to increased (previously hidden, unexpressed, and unsatisfied) demand. Lanes should be built until that demand is met and a reduction is seen. Hopefully the boring company and maybe even personal aviation will change things.

But then the logical counter argument "ok so if we made every interstate 1 lane there would be no impact?" literally retarded

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder Well, that isn't true. Trains have set schedules. They don't leave every second. You wait for people to get on. That's no different than jam delays. Metro systems pack people on like sardines often and you have to wait for the next. Stasis arises. People choose what they prefer.

@WisdomConquer @bankertobuilder Ok- and? As for the economics of cars vs. trains- you can fit far more people on trains vs. cars. Trains don’t have the stuck in traffic issue. Though cars may have comfort and flexibility- they lose out on traffic jams alone.

@JohnSiteman @bankertobuilder You know how, if you mail a package internationally, the intra-city delivery costs far outweight the 4000 mile airplane trip? Do the economics for cars, foot traffic, costs before and after getting on the train. Calculate values for time, comfort and flexiblity of cars.

@WisdomConquer @bankertobuilder Huh? How does that have anything to do with trains. People of all backgrounds take public transit (which is clean by the way). No one is making decisions for anyone- but they do have to make decisions that don’t add to congestion on the roads.
