@TheGoomb1 Satanism is disciplined self-ownership, not costume theater. Less posturing. More results. But yes, it is awesome.

The Highest Holiday: the celebration of self, strength, and earthly existence. Happy birthday to Magus Peter H. Gilmore for decades of Satanic leadership and adversarial fire! Indulgence over guilt! Reality over illusion! Hail Magus Gilmore! Hail @ChurchofSatan! Hail Satan!

Amid occultism’s late-1960s entry to bestseller lists, how-to guides, and even toy aisles—Ouija anyone?—it could be fairly asked: were the “dark arts,” or their most popular variants, growing grandmotherly? Not if Anton LaVey (1930-1997) had anything to say about it. “There is always a risk to underestimate LaVey,” writes sociologist Massimo Introvigne of modernity’s best-known Satanist. The carny-philosopher is as self-made a figure as any in modern life—and his aesthetics, writings, and “pop-Nietzscheanism”—the framing of Carl Abrahamsson—look like an atmospheric layer over Western culture. Kvetchers be damned: Anton LaVey is here to stay. On the evening of April 30, 1966—Walpurgisnacht, a Christian holiday that coincides with pagan rites of spring and sometimes considered the witches’ sabbath—the goateed San Francisco transplant shaved his head and declared the founding of the Church of Satan, designating 1966 “the Year One,” Anno Satanas. In the Year Two, secular New York City novelist Ira Levin (1929-2007) published his classic Rosemary’s Baby—soon widely known for Roman Polanski’s screen version—with coven leader Roman Castevet declaring at a New Year’s celebration: “To 1966, The Year One!” The six-sided die was cast. With his founding of the Church of Satan, or CoS, Anton became the first spiritual rebel to attain superstar status since Aleister Crowley (1875-1947). No one since Anton’s death in 1997 has filled that role. New Agers and self-helpers have hit bestseller lists, run for president, and attracted millions of screen viewers. But no outsider occult figure—one unfit for weekend seminars or headset-wearing TED talks—has upended our cultural assumptions, exposed moral hypocrisies, and embraced outcast iconography as he did . . . mitchhorowitz.substack.com/p/anton-lavey-…

Black coffee doesn’t pretend to be desert. No sugar rush. No performance. Just heat, bitterness, clarity, and the understanding that some things are better when they’re honest.

I completely understand why it may look like that from an outsider's perspective, but closer examination shows that it really isn't a case of 2 different denominations of the same religion. One is an actual organization of Satanists (COS), the other (TST) is a group of political activists who dress up as "Satanists" purely for political stunts. The stunts range from parodying Christians on a small level (e.g., wanting inclusion of "Satanic nativity scenes" next to Christian ones -- even though Satanism has no such things) to getting tax exemption by pretending to be a religious institution under the label of "Satanism". The Church of Satan (est. 1966) established a religion calling itself Satanism, which is described in the book The Satanic Bible. The Satanic Temple are not people who believe in the same core things and just, say, have different interpretations of The Satanic Bible or objections to COS protocol, like how Martin Luther had with the Catholic church. They started as a prank for a documentary that their leader, filmmaker Cevin Soling ("Malcolm Jarry") was making, and don't have enough consistency in their beliefs to be a religion at all, really. TST is just using the notion of "Satanism" as a costume because they think this will act as some sort of "poison pill" to keep religion out of government. Their rationale is that if Christians can "have" things in public spheres like prayers at government meetings, A.A. meetings in libraries, and 10 Commandments monuments on capitol grounds, then "freedom of religion" says that "Satanists" should be able to show up and do these things too. They think that doing these antics "proves a point" about "Christian hypocrisy". I see it as really just an impulsive, cheap thrill of needlessly harassing Christians. Their antics are just parodies of what Christians do, and theologically have nothing to do with Satanism. The antics also don't help the liberal causes they think they're helping (e.g., showing up to an abortion rally as "Satanists" to support the pro-choice side is not a good look to say the least). And the stunts certainly don't make devout Christians back down in their evangelizing.

If anybody's offended at the invocation being given at the Clark County Commission or Las Vegas City Council by a representative of the Church of Satan, there's a simple fix: Stop mixing local government administration and religion in the first place and omit the prayer entirely.

@WisdomSatanic “Theory without application is simply ornamentation.” - Dr. Ing All the books in the world are nothing more than glorified paperweights if next to none of the teachings are given a test drive in real case scenarios. That’s where the rubber really hits the road.

Here’s some tough love: Satanism means very little if it simply remains trapped in aesthetics, symbolism, or emotional excitement. It either becomes practical self-development, or it collapses into performance and self-delusion like other religions and ideologies on the planet.
