I’m driving now and a raven that is very obviously injured and can’t fly, is hopping across the street and I slammed on my brakes to avoid hitting it.
The birds are conspiring against me.

I just Randy Johnson’d a bird on the Garden State Parkway and I saw it fall to the road in my mirror but I don’t think it was dead. 💔

.@elonmusk You announced Project Highland as soon as I bought my second Model 3. Because of that, I have negative equity of 10K.
First M3 had 100K miles, this one has 85K.
I want a Model Y so I can fit my bike in the back.
Can you pls waive the negative equity on trade-in?

HUC, the reform rabbinical school, ordained its last class of 4 students.
Its first class was also 4 students.
End of an era for American Judaism.
The 1883 ordination ceremony became known as the “trayfe banquet.”
A few walked out—starting JTS and the Conservative Movement.

@RationalSettler Sincere Q: Do you think Chareidi leaders view that as part of their responsibility? As far as I could tell that leadership style has been dead since the Haskalah.

Rabbis Boycotting Kosher Restaurants
Recently, Two rabbis from the Lakewood/Toms River area signed and distributed a letter to their communities strongly recommending that community members not patronize a kosher restaurant. They wrote that teens from the community are apparently hanging out at the restaurant at late hours, and their behavior doesn’t reflect the values the rabbis want in their communities.
My son and I recently went out to get something to eat in Jerusalem and were surprised to see a scoreboard sized letter posted on an apartment building across from the restaurant we were planning on visiting. It was a letter signed by a few local Jerusalem Rabbis urging people not to patronize restaurants for the same reason the Lakewood Rabbis urged their community not to patronize a restaurant.
My son lives in the Haredi world and is more familiar with their community’s issues. He explained that there are Haredi teenagers who don’t spend every waking minute in the Beit Medrash, and are considered “off the derech.” These teens hangout late at night at restaurants. The Rabbis want the restaurants to close early so the teens won’t hang out there late at night. The Rabbis are concerned other teens will see them and follow their example.
My son and I had a discussion about the best way to handle the situation. He suggested the Rabbis send “cooler” Rabbis to the restaurants late at night to talk kindly to the teenagers and draw them into the Torah. Our discussion led to the responsibilities of leaders to worry about all members of the community but especially those struggling with communal norms. It’s easy to close ranks and shun those off the path, but it’s the community’s responsibility to draw them in with love.
