In 2017, one my first tasks at the White House was to keep Bobby Kennedy far away from the West Wing. Not because President Trump didn't want him there (he'd actually agreed to Bobby's pitch to create a vaccine safety commission). But others (you can guess who) weren't thrilled, and they told me to get rid of him. So I protected the orthodoxy I'd been trained to protect. And it took me years to realize what I had actually done. Tomorrow, I publish the full confession. The 2002 autism moms I ignored. The 2017 vaccine safety commission I killed. The 2021 moment I finally broke. The apology I owed Secretary Kennedy. And what I've done to atone. It's hardest thing I've written. I'm sending it out to my list at 6am. @frontierism When I got out of HS I pushed carts for Costco for almost 2 years and I can tell you with absolute certainty this is a lie lol. Returning your cart is a decision made for the collective at your own sacrifice.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

With your analogy, it would be more like: The button is also instantly offered to everyone, with it being labeled 'press this to instantly live' with the train howling at your face. And the blue button says whatever the fuck you want because nobody is wasting the time to read it because a train is coming and there's a button to survive. That's how people react in actual, real consequential decision making under high pressure with heavy outcomes.

Suddenly standing alone in the room, I begin by imagining humanity banding together and blue winning in a landslide, and I feel a rush of pride. Red is the genocide button. Blue is the “save humanity from this nightmare” button. I know what kind of person I am. As my hand hovers over the blue button, I can’t help but imagine a gun pointing at my head with a bullet in one of the chambers. I feel a surge of fear shoot through my body. Then I think about all the other people staring at the blue button and thinking the same thing. Surely some of those who initially decided to press blue will succumb to the fear. It starts to feel like a gun with two loaded chambers. A stronger pulse of terror. The more I think about it, the more I worry about other people thinking about it. My heart races. Then I look at the red button—a gun with no bullets in it. A glorious feeling of relief washes over me. Will I hate myself forever if blue wins because enough others were better and braver than me? But don’t I owe it to my family to protect myself? One vote won’t change anything anyway, right? It’s all irrelevant because the mammal I live in has already made up its mind. I wince and press red.

@esaagar Personal opinion has now entered the chat. We don't know any of this without actually studying weed, and a lot of the studies were done prior to legalization and we need to look at today's weed. If it's bad we can confidently say it with science

Nobody needs to study weed. We know everything we need to know: It makes people dumber, it makes people literally go crazy, it messes with hormones, it increases risk of heart attacks, is horrible for pregnant women, and lastly it smells like shit

@esaagar Reducing the classification would allow for more people to study the effects of marijuana and actually prove their detriment or benefits. A lot of the perception of it being "harmless" is probably due to not enough studies being done about it.

Don't know how.. those doctors threw pain meds at my father while he clearly abused them. They have no measureable way to know if you are in pain or not. In fact I'm willing to state my father wasn't in pain until the very end when he became so bony from weight loss, caused by the achalasia, caused by the fentanyl patches.

If you actually study it and have good science, as a weed smoker it makes sense to listen to it. I understand your hate but the idea that doing studies and finding out the truth is some kind of insult kind of pisses me off. Most of us are adults that can learn and make up our minds, we don't need debate club antics to do it.
