@ForWomenScot I would love someone to explain why silently and unwillingly removing your clothes in front of men who demand it, is an act of “compassion”. How is it not humiliation and degradation? How is “be kind” and “compassion” in this example not coercion?

@PompeySteph @akuareindorf @UKLabour @EHRC @bphillipsonMP Again. It’s the law. And she does speak for the majority of women. Every survey that explains that we are talking about nothing more than men who want to use women’s facilities an overwhelming majority does not want you there. Many are afraid of you.

I see @UKLabour MPs are faithfully repeating the line that Govt has managed to “scale back” some “harmful elements” of the @EHRC Code of Practice. They don’t know what Govt has “scaled back”. They haven’t seen the post-consultation version sent to @bphillipsonmp in Sep 25 …/1

The Scottish Prison Service, in the interests of inclusion, won’t even call you a mother if you lost your baby at full term. It recommends instead: ‘employees who have stillbirths’ along with ‘birth parents’, ‘expectant employees’, ‘employees who are breastfeeding’ and ‘employees who express milk’. ‘Women’s rights campaigners have poured scorn on the wording’ @GBNEWS gbnews.com/news/trans-row…

This whole toilet thing really grates on me. It is not difficult to find single occupancy, most commonly, unisex toilets in the UK. I have been using these exclusively for the past 2 decades, before and after transition. My bodily autonomy and ability to use synthetic hormones to augment my body as I see fit leaves me with the responsibility to navigate society in a respectful manner. If you are unaware of what you will face after “transitioning” then you shouldn’t be taking the drugs or having the surgeries. If you haven’t thought about all the consequences of your own actions you shouldn’t be prescribed anything. If you haven’t done enough inner searching to come out the other side strong enough to take what will inevitably get thrown at you then DON’T DO IT. Further to that if you do not want to deal with the backlash after you have started the process, shut up, sit down and stop making your entire being about being a flag waving, justice warrior for a cause that has been manufactured by (mostly) men to claim victimhood and regain power in a society that was slowly being pried from their fingertips

The new EHRC guidance on how to ensure equal rights of all to access basic services falls short of being inclusive or workable in the real world - I will continue to work with other MPs who recognise this to navigate how we change that. Given how toxic discussion of trans rights has become am not going to respond to comments here because doubt will help anyone. Posting this video so residents in Walthamstow know of my concerns and actions. Also want to flag to any Walthamstow resident who wants to talk my next open public forum for political debate is on Thursday 28th May at 7pm and all welcome - email my office to rsvp for venue details.

What we had was chaos - men walking into loos, changing rooms, groups, prisons etc that women have every right to expect to be single sex. Every right, because it is and always has been the law. The chaos was everyone being too terrified of the trans lobby to object to their entitlement

The ruling on the interpretation of biological sex in the Equality Act by the Supreme Court is 'bad law' ie. it will fail to achieve its 'intended purpose' and cause 'unintentional harm' both to trans people and to cis men and women if/when it is enforced. Chaos will ensue. #EHRC

It’s true, men have a long history of lawbreaking, violating women’s boundaries and enjoying exerting power over women to cause distress. If they were women you would just weaponise “be kind” and “no debate” and assume everyone would obey. You know you are dealing with men, that’s why you ask the question.

The BBC’s failure to cover the GIDS scandal has been a serious dereliction of its public duty. After resigning as a governor of the Tavistock, I was involved behind the scenes in the 2019 Panorama programme on GIDS. The producer warned me I might be disappointed the programme would expose only one part of the scandal, not the whole story. That warning told me everything I needed to know about the BBC’s problem with impartiality on this issue. When Sue Evans and Keira Bell won the first judicial review, there was no serious follow-up from the BBC News, Woman’s Hour, or other major outlets. Nor was there adequate coverage of one of the most important findings of the Cass Review: the poor quality of the evidence base behind medical interventions for children and adolescents with gender distress. Instead, the BBC repeatedly broadcast positive stories about transition while failing to investigate the harms, uncertainties, and institutional failures surrounding this field. Sue and I have seen some of the casualties. Parents have been badly let down by professional bodies that lacked the courage or independence to challenge the affirmative model none of which received the scrutiny a public broadcaster exists to provide. With honourable exceptions in Newsnight and the Today programme, the BBC has failed young people, failed parents, and failed in its most basic public duty.

Trans women have been using the ladies loos for two decades in the UK. There is NO evidence to suggest women are at a greater risk because of it. This is a made-up problem caused by some rich bigots. Excluding trans peoples from single sex spaces will not make c!s women safer.

@owenjonesjourno Why do you think men who identify as women will break the law? Why do they have no regard for the law or womens boundaries? Why won’t they just be kind and stay out of our spaces?

If trans women use men’s toilets, they will be subjected to humiliation, abuse and violence. Anyone with any sense knows this. Which is why in practice trans women will not use men’s toilets, and will just increasingly be driven out of society.

Here’s Amol Rajan’s resoundingly negative cue for Mary-Anne Stephenson of the EHRC. The BBC has instantly jumped to gender activist talking points and chosen guests accordingly: the law left enforcement unclear, it’s too hard to police, it will be expensive, the use of ‘female at birth’, something silly about the CQC, men are sad, men are bullied by women, everything is still confusing. There’s no welcome from women and gay people, nothing about how they will be safer, the rights of LGB associations, the relief felt this morning, how egregious the delay was: and they actually picked up a Neon guest of the worst kind. That’s twice in 24 hours the BBC has taken the lazy option and phoned Helen Belcher, whose disproportionate influence on the media is a good part of the reason they’re saying ‘female at birth’ and calling him a woman at all. None of his claims are fact-checked - of course.

There’s something up with the @BBCr4today team this morning. They seem to have forgotten their impartiality duty completely in their 0810 slot out of pity for men who want to use women’s toilets and showers. As a team, they usually have a bit more background understanding.

@LoganLevkoff GRCs cost £5. There are benefits to women of ensuring single sex spaces ARE single sex. Including basic dignity. But also this…. Not worth worrying about in your books 🤷🏻‍♀️

While there are meaningful conversations to have about gender, people with a UK gender recognition certificate, who have gone through hoops to “prove” their gender, deserve to be protected. In addition to stripping trans people of their civil rights and basic dignity, the frenzy of this is sure to create a hostile, dangerous environment for trans people. What is the benefit of preventing trans people from accessing a mammogram? Seriously. Please tell me.
