The ruling on the interpretation of biological sex in the Equality Act by the Supreme Court is 'bad law' ie. it will fail to achieve its 'intended purpose' and cause 'unintentional harm' both to trans people and to cis men and women if/when it is enforced. Chaos will ensue. #EHRC

@MalcolGate @jj_scup Finally, no child is ‘trans’. It is a social contagion & almost invariably a symptom of other comorbidities, mental health issues or abuse/trauma. Many ‘trans’ children are simply homosexual. This is data from a UK gender clinic (now closed). It makes horrifying reading.

@MalcolGate @jj_scup Tell that to the detransitioners. It seems far too many people have forgotten how to be parents. Protecting children does not mean giving them exactly what they want, no matter how insane. It means setting boundaries and guiding them away from harm. I have experience of this.

@jj_scup @HodsonAnn First rule of safeguarding is to listen to the child. Many people have had exactly the same view as you but when they've had to come to terms with a trans child they've completely changed their mind. Those that haven't have, to all intents and purposes, disowned them.

@MalcolGate @HodsonAnn Get them help away from social media and with someone professional who will not affirm their trans beliefs by rote. These situations come from adults influence on their peer group or social media and must be gently handled rather than affirmation and surgery! Do not affirm!

Reform-led Durham council cut off funding to the annual Pride celebrations. So trade unions launched a fundraiser to save it, eventually raising more money than was cut. Which means this year's Pride will be bigger than ever. In the 1980s, the LGBT+ community raised thousands of pounds to help striking miners and their families. When we stick up for each other, we can achieve anything.

I've seen a very dark side of this platform over the bank holiday weekend. I wrote a post supporting teachers — thousands of replies telling me that they hate teachers. Posts in which I called out Robert Kenyon's misogyny — thousands of replies telling me that he's 'proper bloke' and plenty of women saying they'll happily vote for him. Allowing for the 𝕏 Bot Factor, I am really quite shocked by how many people are so entrenched in beliefs I thought we'd left behind in the 1980s. Reform UK has dragged a sizeable proportion of this country back decades. Racism. Misogyny. Anti-education. A trifecta of bigotry being used to weaponise the far-right. Very disturbing but, thankfully, in the UK, it's only around 23% of the population. Not enough for Reform to win a General Election.
