@alphasymp @FiggyTater @WhenBeliefDies Here's a short articulation of what I call the participation theodicy. There's links in the follow-up, of short papers I've written as well as a couple discussions I've had with people going over it. twitter.com/WriterJohnBuck…

@graciousathiest @jonsteingard @BissetteHunter @RealAtheology The one I find most plausible is my own, that the greatest thing God could do would be to create a perfect world through the contribution of creatures bringing it about. But, such would require initially creating an imperfect world with creatures where evils can occur.

@walkhumbl @Latterdaytruth If there is anything visible or invisible in heaven, it either IS God, or is created by God. If there was pre-existing matter there would be something visible in heaven that was not God nor created by God. That matter would be uncreated.

And I am still Christian. I’m an LDS Christian again. My religion is not Mormonism. My religion is Christianity and my denomination of Christianity is Mormonism or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

@Lachlan40342295 @orthobrohammer That’s fair. Someone could initiate a response with ‘yeah’ to acknowledge the question without intending to answer in the affirmative. However, since the question was ‘Is the Son’s nature generated?’ everything Jay said seemed to express an affirmation. Or he dodged the question.

@WriterJohnBuck @orthobrohammer No because I don’t know about your dialectic of English but in mine you can start a sentence with ‘yeah’ and not have it be some total or absolute affirmation of what the interlocutor led with; Jay seems to clarify properly. Sorry if I seemed hostile btw

@Lachlan40342295 @orthobrohammer You're right. He says 'come from the Father.' Which -since when asked if the Son's nature is generated, he said 'Yeah'- we can take this to imply Jay thinks the Son's nature is generated by the Father. Thanks for correcting my quotation.

@orthobrohammer Do you lack basic reading/listening comprehension? He never said the essence was generated, his personhood is. This is the patristic teaching

@thesaviorweneed @Alfredovich65 @PhilosopherJoeC Propositions can be true even in non-actual worlds. A proposition is true in a non-actual world just in case were that world actual, that proposition would be true in it. For instance we can say that 'all unicorns have horns', since if a world had unicorns, they'd all have horns.

@WriterJohnBuck @PhilosopherJoeC Yeah. It's all you've (I've, we've) got. I don't know how to get out of the trap either. Obviously it's objectively wrong to torture puppies for fun. Fortunately fellow language users on Earth will all agree to yell at anyone who disagrees when I assert that.

@amberavtvmn @WesleyLHuff Catholic means universal. It is what Christians referred to themselves as, and is mentioned in the Nicene creed. Protestants affixed ‘Roman’ to those in union with the bishop of Rome so as to distinguish them from the term.

I'm often asked why -- given my study in both the Bible and church history -- I am not Roman Catholic. I recently sat down in front of my camera and outlined some of why that is. youtube.com/watch?v=DpNgxs…

@SoftwareEUG @PhilosopherJoeC It’s a principle of epistemology that you prove the unclear by what is clear. It’d be foolish to try to prove a controversial claim by something just as controversial, but much smarter to try to prove it by something that is uncontroversial.

@WriterJohnBuck @PhilosopherJoeC Objective arguments, as usual, rely on saying, "see something that everyone agrees on is true!" Show us something people don't mostly agree on that's irrefutable and then we'll be somewhere.
