They did exactly what they should have. Many uninformed takes claimed the U.S. would just roll over NATO, when in fact they have a larger land army than the U.S. and specialize in Arctic warfare. It is appalling and shameful we put them through this.

1/ Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland in January, with military support from France, Germany, and Nordic nations. Elite troops and F-35 jets with live ammunition were sent, and runways were to be blown up to prevent an invasion. ⬇️

You start to see AI predicted everywhere. Reading Infinite Jest recently, and now in this jaw-dropping, narrative-less chapter which comes out of nowhere hundreds of pages into Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate. Gut punch

it’s corny to say but that Dune Part Three trailer really did kinda cure my depression where negativity infiltrated my ambient thoughts, now it’s all just Dune

Every time we have a Republican president, we're rewarded with a new war and a recession, every fucking time.

The 2024 election was a choice between racism, bigotry, economic upheaval, and war VS a normal center-left wine mom who cracks up at corny jokes. You all chose destruction, and just over a year in, that’s exactly what we got. I hope you enjoy your $6 gas and $60 pack of steaks

Metaverse shutting down after spending 800000000000000000000000000000000000 freedom dollars on it proves LLMs can go away too. These things can be put back in the box for better things.

@WalshFreedom A guy at my job is so mad about gas prices and the war in Iran, he said that we have no business being over there, that we can't be led around by Israel, and that "we should have let Hitler finish the job on them." I disagreed with that last part. But hey, baby steps.

Long conversation just now with a progressive who was angry with me bcuz I said Trump didn’t CAUSE our broken politics & our dangerously divided country. I said he’s made everything worse, but he’s the ugly CONSEQUENCE of a broken politics & a dangerously divided country. She believed Trump WAS the cause. So we discussed how out of touch politicians had become, how balkanized our media had become, how lazy both parties had become, and how uninformed & easily manipulated voters had become over the years, and how it all created the perfect storm for a cruel fraud & demagogue like Trump. She listened. I listened. She gained real understanding. I did too. I really like conversations like that.

It is painfully obvious with the USA. Every time the economy’s done great, jobs created etc. we vote m for Republicans who ruin everything. First Bush, then Trump. And it will happen again in the future. In the end, Fukuyama was right.

i think a lot about @DouthatNYT 's decadence thesis these days. Perhaps humans are bound to screw up stability and prosperity?

People often don’t realize that you can’t talk to Asians the same way you talk to Europeans or Westerners. There’s a cultural expectation that historical context, respect, and subtlety are treated differently what might seem casual or humorous in the West is deeply offensive in Japan, In Japan, context, respect, and subtlety guide almost every interaction. Unlike in many Western countries, where directness is valued, Japanese communication often relies on reading between the lines.

Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi's reaction as Trump says "Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Habour?" Undoubtedly the worst American diplomatic gaffe in post-war US-Japan history.
