Today, I was in Sumy region – one of the directions where a lot is at stake. I personally thanked our warriors and everyone carrying out missions in the Kursk region, defending our state and our Sumy region from the Russians’ unrelenting desire to advance into Ukraine from these directions. I am grateful to all our soldiers and sergeants, to every officer fighting with absolute heroism in these areas. Since August of last year, our units have been fighting on enemy territory—one of Ukraine’s most significant achievements in this war. It is entirely fair to bring the war back to where it came from. We spoke with the commanders of our units in this area – discussed key needs, additional support, equipment supply, drones, operational issues. We are working to defend our positions. We know what the enemy is counting on. In any case, we will defend our state, our independence and our people.

I held a special meeting after the Bucha Summit with speakers and representatives of partner countries’ parliaments and the European Parliament. Our guests were unequivocal: Europe will not forget the moral conclusions drawn from this war. It cannot be allowed for Putin, other Russian criminals, and the Russian state itself to be absolved of responsibility. It is simply impossible to normalize what they did in Bucha, in Mariupol, and in so many other cities and villages. Last night alone, Russia launched 172 strike drones — over 100 of them were Shaheds. These massive drone attacks have now become a near-daily reality. On top of that, there are continued missile threats, including ballistic ones. Our partners should clearly understand: these strikes are not just attacks on Ukrainian civilians, but also on all international efforts — on the very diplomacy we are trying to use to end this war. Russia is striking at the positions of everyone who wants to end this war. It is impossible to ignore hundreds of Shaheds every night. We expect a response. We are working toward a response. A strong response is needed — from the U.S., from Europe, from everyone in the world who has placed their bets on diplomacy. Russia must be forced into peace — only pressure will work. For far too long, the U.S. proposal for an unconditional ceasefire has been on the table — without a proper response from Russia. That says a lot. There could already have been a ceasefire — if there had been real pressure on Russia. I thank those partners who understand this and are pushing the necessary decisions forward — including new sanctions.

Throughout last evening and night, Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 170 drones, including over 100 Shaheds. This massive attack targeted the Dnipro, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions. All night in Dnipro, the aftermath of this attack was being dealt with. As of now, four people are confirmed dead. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Twenty-one people were injured, including a pregnant woman. Residential buildings, a hotel-restaurant complex, garages, and a car repair shop were destroyed or damaged in the city. Unfortunately, there was destruction in every region that came under attack. Our unwavering gratitude goes to everyone helping people on the ground after such strikes – those rescuing, providing medical aid, and clearing the rubble. Russia mocks the world’s peace efforts – dragging out the war and committing these acts of terror because it still doesn’t feel real pressure. Diplomacy can work, but only when backed by actions that strengthen our warriors and deprive the occupiers of the resources to wage war. Our partners know what can help, what kind of pressure, and it depends on America, on Europe, on everyone in the world who wants effective diplomacy.

Important to realize that Trump’s approach to Canada and Greenland is like his approach to Ukraine. It’s not even American imperialism. It is America enabling Russian imperialism. It’s America destroying its own best alliances, cutting itself off from its own crucial bases, making a Russian nuclear first strike on the US easier, opening Arctic territories that were once safe to Russian expansion. That’s the one logic that makes it all make sense. There is no conception of US interests, including an imperial one, in which this makes sense.

Right now, in many regions, you can literally hear what Russia truly needs. Around 40 "Shahed" drones are in our skies, and air defense is active. Unfortunately, there have been hits, specifically on civilian infrastructure. A direct hit by a "Shahed" drone on a hospital in Sumy, strikes on cities in the Donetsk region, and attack drones currently in the skies over the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy regions. It is these types of nighttime attacks by Russia that destroy our energy sector, our infrastructure, and the normal life of Ukrainians. And the fact that this night is no exception shows that the pressure on Russia must continue for the sake of peace. Today, Putin effectively rejected the proposal for a full ceasefire. It would be right for the world to respond by rejecting any attempts by Putin to prolong the war. Sanctions against Russia. Assistance to Ukraine. Strengthening allies in the free world and working toward security guarantees. And only a real cessation of strikes on civilian infrastructure by Russia, as proof of its willingness to end this war, can bring peace closer.
