OPINION: Bible verse used by Landen Roupp on Pride Night caps felt like a rejection of the San Francisco Giants’ LGBTQ fans, Tony Bravo writes. sfchronicle.com/entertainment/…

The Department of Justice is now launching an investigation into MLB following the Giants’ Pride Night controversy. nbcbay.com/5iadMSE

There have been approximately 60,000 athletes who have played in MLB (~23,000), NBA (~5,000), NFL (~24,000) and NHL (~8,500) history. In the history of major North American sports, a total of 172 MIN have been played by an out athlete: Jason Collins (Brooklyn Nets, 2012-13) 1/6

The York Revolution have made changes to their scheduled Pride Night after “a number of [their] players have refused to wear the scheduled Pride Night jersey.”

@OriginalClady So shoving it down normies throats is the way you would get people in sports culture to accept LGBTQ fans? Pride Night (and some others as well) turns the players into props for causes they don't support.

Wait, so the Pride hats were optional? Like it's not even true they were forced to wear them?

D-backs pitcher Ryan Thompson, who is a proclaimed Christian, spoke on the MLB warning SF Giants players who wrote Bible verses on Pride Night caps: "I think there's a perceived negativity with this stuff. Landen Roupp wrote a verse on his hat that means he's anti something. That doesn't mean that. It means that he's pro something. So the rainbow means something to him. It means that he believes in the Noahic Covenant being something that's special to us as Christians."

For everyone who's got a problem with the MLB players writing Bible verses on their hats during their team's Pride Night game, I've got another scenario for you. An MLB team decides to have Christian Night at the Park, and requires each player to wear a hat with a cross on it, rather than the team's logo. What's your response?

The problem here is that you fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of Pride Night. It's not about promoting a belief system. It's about showing LGBTQ+ fans that they belong at the ballpark. If you're opposed to Pride Night, that's the message you're opposing.
