Last year Mike had a cardiac arrest at home and his partner Jen called 999, performed CPR until the ambulance arrived and Mike went on to make a full recovery. He and his partner then did some fundraising for @yas_charity Today he came to meet the crews who attended and helped to save his life. @YorksAmbulance @World_RAH #restartaheart @ResusCouncilUK

Essentially yes, they have a tiered response (BLS response which is by firefighter-EMTs) who generally arrive first, usually within 4 minutes I’m told) and then they are followed by an ALS-capable response)… who cover a larger geographical area (compared to the BLS response), which is why they are usually the “second” responders. But the success rate is likely due to the BLS that is provided so well and in such a timely manner. #chainofsurvival (it really is the basics done right that leads to survival… not the fancy ALS stuff)

Higher bystander CPR rates being a factor for sure… this itself due to a greater public awareness of CPR and AED use (and availability). Also the EMS response to a cardiac arrest is a team of at least 5 who drill together the running of OOHCA (using pit crew model) and are super slick 😝
