Can't agree more. After trying out ChatGPT 5.4/5.5 for two months I feel it's far from replacing human researchers, even though it's enabling me to do things not possible before. The effect on how outsiders perceive academic research is far more worrying.

My pure math friends are mostly optimistic about AI doing math. What they are really worried about is not getting grants and positions because people will assume mathematicians are no longer needed.

New paper from @DukeU, @UTAustin, @Yale (Kenneth Brown's group). 🧵 Headline: Quantum Advantage on a 100-qubit Ising simulation with ~11,500 atoms in ~15 hours. An architecture + simulation study (not a hardware demo) showing how to parallelize fault-tolerant compute on neutral atoms by pairing QLDPC codes with a teleportation-based T-gate scheme.

Do you think estimating observable value of thermal states is costly, since one must pay the mixing time to prepare *each* sample? We show that this sampling cost can be significantly reduced: effectively independent sample can be obtained in a time shorter than the mixing time!
