@nettermike Jerry it’s not always about saving the planet. Performance is also a factor. I don’t give 2 squats about the environment when I drive my Taycan. It’s electric, but before it’s good for environment it’s stylish, fast as hell, and convenient.

@ScoutKennedy IMO the right thing to do would be a modest 3 year extension that guarantees his 5th year and up’s his pay for year 4 by a modest amount. Essentially buy out his franchise years at a discount if he’ll go for it. It’s unlikely he’ll still be a superstar in 5 more years.

@ScoutKennedy RBs get it rough. If you’re a 1st rounder you could legitimately not see a second contract even if you performed at superstar level during your rookie deal. You’ve got to be carful when giving out long term deals to RBs.

He has at least 3 years of cost control, with fully guaranteed money, on his contract. 2026 - $7 million - guaranteed 2027 - $11.3 million - guaranteed (5th year option) 2028 - $16 million est. - guaranteed (franchise tag, rounded up from $15.2 million in 2027) Are you afraid of a hold out? Do you think it's just the "right thing to do"? |Do you think a new deal locks him up beyond the 3 years you already have (and frankly, a 2nd franchise tag, making it 4 years, isn't that expensive). I'd absolutely wait 2 more years and tag him if I can, and THEN negotiate a new deal. Like the Colts did with Jonathan Taylor. I'd sure like to see what he looks like after 700 more touches before giving him a massive second contract. If it costs me a bit more down the line, so be it.
