@YoungbloodJoe Random experiment idea... what if you convert the content to a video and noindex the article?

Here's an example where we still rank #1 but traffic vanished when AIOs were introduced. Google's AIO uses largely our verbiage and steps mixed with an older YouTube video but gives the YouTube video and a much much older Quora thread with a pretty off the mark AI answer credit in the AIO. In any case the AIO steals the content and reproduces. The outcome would likely be the same if we were included above this or below it.

Since January of 2024 our agency site has lost approximately 96% of traffic from Google, but we still rank extremely well for some keywords / pages that lost traffic. Here's what has happened: 1. We offer solutions to issues on Meta / FB that go against Meta / FBs established documentation, those articles are virtually non-existent in Google now even though they have helped thousands. 2. The content that Google still ranks has all be stolen by Google for AI Overviews which cite other random websites instead of ours even though our content is clearly what is being used to generate the AIO and the page ranks at the top spot. This is clearly seen in the second image as the gap between "Impressions" and "Clicks" widens, pay special attention to mid-May of 2024. Google is a total shitshow that is telling users either they suck at organic rankings OR their AI is low quality. In all cases traffic to downstream content that is unique, original, and helpful, is being demolished all while less useful content and even scam websites rank instead.

Google just added a significant new rule to the Business Profile Guidelines: Businesses selling products or services with minimum age requirements (e.g. alcohol, cannabis) MUST have a storefront. 1/3

Today we released the August 2024 core update. It continues our work to improve the quality of our search results by showing more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search. developers.google.com/search/blog/20…

In case you're wondering, that test that @randfish had us do on the webinar with @iPullRank where a few hundred people searched "vietnamese restaurant seattle" and clicked on the Google Business profile for a specific business. This is how they rank right now. 🤯

@mblumenthal If someone asked a question, then be prepared for the answer whatever it may be. It should be a complete factual answer, regardless if it may be offensive or not. It is not up to the AI (or the creators of the AI) to police this aspect, as offensiveness is completely subjective.

What would their refusal look like? Who would give the best answer?/1

@YoungbloodJoe Sorry was unclear... the appeal goes to the appeal team, no issue there. But they won't further investigate the larger abuse problem of the map pins being moved.

Update to this update: We've uncovered MASS MAP PIN MANIPULATION in the Phoenix, AZ region. Focused on a specific industry, nearly all companies have had their pins moved away from their business locations to either residential neighborhoods or competing business locations. The map pins not manipulated are all either Rank and Rent profiles we know are affiliated with a competitor OR that competitor OR do not rank in the top 20 anywhere in the metro region. Some of these companies have similar sounding names, think like "Mountain Cakes" and "Mountain River Bakery". The attackers are SWAPPING the map pins for similar sounding businesses who appear to be getting suspended when they try to move them back on their own. Utter insanity Google is allow randos to move map pins so effortlessly and then SUSPENDING the profile owners for moving them back.

Update on this: It appears Google reversed their suspension a fee hours into this so we didn't appeal, then this morning the listing was gone without a new notice and now we cant seem to appeal, the link in the original email goes to this fun page.

Apparently lead gen scammers / rank and renters are now getting $40 LLC's to prove their fake businesses are real, even if they don't exist at the location this appears to be working for reinstatement. wow. Will post more as I finish this research.

@rustybrick no worries, no apology needed. 👍 Not sure if you feel pressure to answer all of the 'is this new' type tweets but I had found my own answer so there was no need to tag you.

@rustybrick Thanks for confirming. Also, its why I didn't ask 'is this new?' Was just the first time I was seeing it so thought maybe its getting rolled out more.

😱This new spamming technique is BONKERS. I just escalated a thread on the forum, so hopefully Google fixes it soon. Several businesses with completely different addresses are all now showing up pinned at the same location. I think there is a good chance this is intentional. Why? Because Google filters out businesses at the same location. So if you want your competitors to disappear, just move their pins to the same location, and they will vanish on Google. Forum link in reply.
