A ceremony is held every Qingming Festival at the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor in Yan'an's Huangling county to honor this legendary ancestor of Chinese civilization, who is credited with uniting tribes and advancing farming, clothing, transportation, and writing.

Years ago, I was flying from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Vietnam during Chinese New Year and met a Chinese college student (on the right) at the airport who casually mentioned she was solo traveling. Back then, that genuinely surprised me. At least in my circle, I had barely heard of young Chinese girls traveling alone internationally yet, especially during Spring Festival when most students were heading back to their hometowns to see family. So in my head I was like you’re doing WHAT? We ended up spending the night at the airport and heading into the city once the sun came up. Then we met up in Vietnam again. She was incredibly curious about the world, super open-minded, adventurous, and eager to experience everything around her. At the time, she was studying in Suzhou. Fast forward a while later, she told me she and her team at the university had actually been following my entrepreneurial journey in China and wanted to invite me as a potential speaker for TEDxSuzhouYoung. After interviews, speech drafts, preparations, rehearsals, and many rounds of selection… I ended up becoming one of the speakers. Later she moved to Shanghai, we met a few more times over the years, and eventually she went on to become a huge creator with millions of followers on Chinese social media. Can you guess who she is? I’ve had so many random and amazing encounters like this over the years, and I think a big part of it comes from staying curious about people, being open to conversations, and probably looking approachable enough lol. A lot of people travel through the world observing it still within their comfort zone. But when you’re genuinely interested in people’s stories, cultures, dreams, fears, weird ideas, startup plans, travel disasters, exam stress… life somehow starts opening hidden doors everywhere. Sometimes those encounters last five minutes. Sometimes they turn into friendships, collaborations, TEDx stages, business ideas, adventures across countries, or stories you remember for years. The world becomes very different when you stop treating strangers as background characters. Go meet people on your way to work. It’s okay if you’re the one saying hi first, making the first joke, correcting someone’s spelling:) or making them smile with your randomness and goofiness. Every day, hundreds of people pass by each other. Same metro, same streets, same cafes, same elevators… and yet we rarely even make eye contact anymore. Every stranger is carrying an entire universe inside them. Dreams, heartbreaks, ambitions, fears, family stories, secret talents, travel plans, unfinished projects, maybe even future TEDx speakers or future founders or someone who just really needed one kind interaction that day. Not every conversation will become a wholesome moment. Most won’t. But some tiny moments unexpectedly stay with you for years. The world feels a little less lonely when people dare to be warm first.

Wuhan’s late-night street food scene is something else. You eat. You walk it off. But the woks behind you are still throwing heat, and the crowd's still three-deep at the folding tables. The city doesn't wind down—it just stops pretending to sleep.

"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all." In #China, a love for books often starts before school begins. Nationwide, families and educators encourage young readers every day. This year's national reading week, running from April 20 to 26, will feature a series of events to ignite a passion for reading in all, regardless of age. #WorldsOfWords

A towering 5.2-meter West Highland White Terrier sculpture made of lush greenery stole the spotlight at the 2026 Shanghai International Flower Show opening on Saturday in Shanghai, becoming a sensation on Chinese social media for its vivid charm and larger-than-life presence. This kind of street aesthetic practice will further connect residents with the city and is also a manifestation of the idea that "Better city, better life".
