I know this is controversial, but we should explore taking Jolani off terrorism sanctions lists. He's undergone a spectacular verbal and behavioral transformation that warrants testing. Don't alienate him and a broad segment of Syrian society. Victimhood only radicalizes them. I have and will always oppose him politically, but we'd be hypocrites if we denied him political participation while calling for pluralism and democracy.

A right-wing Israeli mob came to my family’s home yesterday to search for me, threatening close family members who fled to another town in the middle of the night. I am still getting death threats and had to cancel my flight home. This happened after Israeli media and German politicians absurdly labeled my Berlinale award speech - where I called for equality between Israelis and Palestinians, a ceasefire and an end to apartheid - as ‘antisemitic’. The appalling misuse of this word by Germans, not only to silence Palestinian critics of Israel, but also to silence Israelis like me who support a ceasefire that will end the killing in Gaza and allow the release of the Israeli hostages - empties the word antisemitism of meaning and thus endangers Jews all over the world. As my grandmother was born in a concentration camp in Libya and most of my grandfather’s family was murdered by Germans in the holocaust, I find it particularly outraging that German politicians in 2024 have the audacity to weaponize this term against me in a way that endangered my family. But above all else, this behavior puts Palestinian co-director Basel Adra’s life in danger, who lives under a military occupation surrounded by violent settlements in Masafer Yatta. He is in far greater danger than I am. I’m happy our award winning film, No Other Land, is sparking an important international debate on this issue - and I hope that millions of people watch it when it comes out this year. Sparking a conversation is why we made it. You can have harsh criticism of what me and Basel said on stage without demonizing us. If this is what you’re doing with your guilt for the holocaust - I don’t want your guilt.

Austrittserklärung: Die Asylpolitik der Grünen tragen wir nicht mehr mit Wir, eine Gruppe Geflüchteter, die zwischen 2014 und 2016 vor Verfolgung und Krieg nach Deutschland geflohen sind, sehen uns gezwungen, eine schwierige Entscheidung zu treffen. Wir haben uns entschlossen, aus der Partei Bündnis 90/Die Grünen auszutreten. Der Grund dafür ist die Asyl- und Migrationspolitik der Parteispitze in der Ampelregierung. Die Zustimmung zur Reform des Gemeinsamen Europäischen Asylsystems, die das Asylrecht – ein fundamentales Menschenrecht – faktisch abschafft und zum sogenannten „Rückführungsverbesserungsgesetz”, das zu massiven Grundrechtsverletzungen für viele Geflüchtete führen wird, ist ein historischer Verrat grüner Politik an Geflüchteten Menschen. Unsere Entscheidung ist nicht nur eine Reaktion auf unsere persönliche Betroffenheit, sondern ein Ausdruck des Widerstands für die Menschenrechte. Denn es ist nicht nur unsere Pflicht als Betroffene, für die Menschen auf der Flucht zu sprechen und ihre Grundrechte zu verteidigen, sondern auch Eure. Dieser Pflicht seid Ihr mit Eurer jetzigen Haltung und Zustimmung nicht nachgekommen. Unsere Zeit bei Bündnis 90/Die Grünen war geprägt vom Streben nach einer gerechten und inklusiven Zukunft. Viele von uns engagierten sich in Ämtern der Partei, angetrieben von dem Glauben an eine offene und gleichberechtigte Gesellschaft, in der wir gemeinsam und mutig unsere Zukunft - unabhängig von Herkunft, Religion oder Hautfarbe - gestalten können. Die aktuelle Ausrichtung der Partei steht jedoch unseren Bemühungen als Betroffene und den Bemühungen vieler anderer innerhalb der Partei entgegen. Besonders kritisch finden wir die zunehmend flüchtlingsfeindliche Rhetorik innerhalb der Partei, die in keiner Weise einen Kampf gegen rechts darstellt, sondern vielmehr einen Rechtsruck signalisiert. Dies führt nicht nur zu einer weiteren Zunahme der Gewalt gegen Geflüchtete, sondern stärkt auch die AfD, die eine ernsthafte Bedrohung für die Demokratie in Deutschland darstellt. Die Haltung der Partei zur aktuellen Asyl- und Migrationspolitik steht im deutlichen Widerspruch zu Menschenrechten und dem Solidaritätsprinzip. Es ist für uns nicht hinnehmbar, dass die Parteispitze dieser Reform zugestimmt hat und dies jetzt als Erfolg darstellt, obwohl sie den Parteigrundsätzen, dem Wahlprogramm und dem Koalitionsvertrag widerspricht. Angesichts dieser Kluft zwischen unseren Überzeugungen und der politischen Ausrichtung von Bündnis 90/Die Grünen sehen wir uns gezwungen, unsere Mitgliedschaft zu beenden. Wir können nicht Teil einer Partei bleiben, die unsere Bemühungen, die Allgemeingültigkeit der Menschenrechte und rechtsstaatliche Prinzipien zu schützen, untergräbt. Wir fordern Euch daher auf, zu den Grundsätzen der eigenen Partei zurückzukehren. Denn Eure Politik der vermeintlichen Ordnung trifft am Ende Menschen wie uns. Wir können und wollen dem nicht kommentarlos zuschauen. Wir wünschen allen Menschen, die innerhalb der Partei engagiert für die Rechte geflüchteter Menschen eintreten, weiterhin viel Kraft und hoffen, dass die Partei ihren menschenrechtlichen Kompass wiederfindet. Why is it so difficult to also mention the imperative that Israel respects international humanitarian law? Why is it so difficult to see that not doing so seriously undermines European credibility, starting with our support for Ukraine?

Happy Birthday, Hannah Arendt! Arendt saw the worst her century had to offer and her question was: How can we love the world? Her work is a reminder that "We are free to change the world and start something new in it."
