@VirgileLeVirgin @meesedev True, graphics will always be the bigger hit on demanding games. Cache misses are a drop in the bucket when you're doing massively complex rendering

Claiming UE5's performance problems are just "devs who don't know what they're doing" is the tech version of "the system works, you just need to work harder." When many developers ship games with the same issues, it points to the engine's architecture. Unreal's OOP-heavy design pushes developers toward expensive abstractions (which doesn't even save the developer time, in fact, it does the opposite). If good performance requires bypassing half the engine with custom code and workarounds, the onus is on Unreal.

@ZephyrCheez @meesedev You just have to implement it well and use the right solution for depending on the problem. An hybrid approach is often the solution. Although DOD is more performent and should be prioritized over OOP design in performance critical work, that doesn't mean you shouldn't use OOP

@meesedev It's also the fact that C++ has accrued a massive amount of technical debt from poor design choices in its early days. And because ISO insists on keeping backwards compatibility between major versions, they've had to bloat the STL with things that should be language features.

@ZephyrCheez With all due respect to Linus Torvalds, I don't blindly follow what a single person says. There are plenty of other prominent developers at Linus Torvalds' level that prefer C++.

@VirgileLeVirgin @meesedev No, OOP is inherently bad for performance critical work. OOP is designed to be easier to understand for humans but it's not how the computer actually works and will always be inferior to a data oriented design

@ZephyrCheez @meesedev Linus Torvalds is an accomplished dev but he never worked on video games. Also saying OOP is bad for games is profoundly stupid. You just have to do it right which is hard when working in UE5 since the engines tries to do to much and end up having heavy abstraction

@big_old_larry @ThinkingAtheist The reason churches are tax exempt is not because they're actual charities, it's because the IRS classifies spreading religion as a public good. It's why Scientology is tax exempt despite providing zero public benefit.

@big_old_larry @ThinkingAtheist Buddy, the average church only spends about 15% of its revenue on charitable endeavors as opposed to legitimate charities that usually spend over 70% of their revenue

The “it’s just a name” argument falls apart the moment you look at how the system actually functioned. The Nazis abolished independent unions, imposed state control over industry, fixed prices and wages, directed production, criminalized disobedience, and subordinated property to political loyalty. The state decided what was produced, in what quantity, at what price, and for whose benefit. Ownership without control is compliance. You can argue they weren’t Marxists. Fine. But they were absolutely collectivists who rejected individual rights and treated the economy as a tool of the state. Different rhetoric. Same coercion. Same direction.

@ZephyrCheez @goknicksgoyanks @JohnDoyle Again, US immigration law for over 150+ years, specified "free white men" The fact that Irish and Italians were allowed here at all is quite literally the only evidence required to show they were seen as "free white men"

This still does not mean Irish and Italians were seen as non-White in terms of the law. They were never subject to miscegenation laws, voting laws, etc, they were all seen as equal in terms of the law. Again, social discrimination because of culture & religion doesn't mean they were considered not White.

@ZephyrCheez @IndianaModerate @FreeManDespair @DastDn So, you agree that socialism is impossible? I mean, not without destroying humanity. Stripping away humans of competition, drive, will and everything that pushes us to be better can't be good for everyone. People will always resist that.
