It’s good news that the Strait of Hormuz has now reopened. This must be a long lasting and workable solution, without tolls or restrictions on routes. Today we announced our joint plan with France and other international partners to protect freedom of navigation. We need to see a return to peace and stability, and a permanent ceasefire.

Under international law, transit through waterways like the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and free of charge. This is what leaders made clear in their call on reopening the Strait today. Any pay-for-passage scheme will set a dangerous precedent for global maritime routes. Iran has to abandon any plan to levy transit fees. Europe will play its part in restoring the free flow of energy and trade, once a ceasefire takes hold. The EU’s Aspides naval mission is already operating in the Red Sea and can be quickly strengthened to protect shipping across the region. This could be the fastest way to provide support.

New Jersey is ready and excited to host eight FIFA World Cup matches this summer – including the World Cup Final. Since I took office, my Administration has been working to prepare for the biggest sporting event our state has ever seen – and today, NJ TRANSIT released their Mobility Plan to move 40,000 fans to and from each match safely and efficiently. In the FIFA World Cup agreement that my Administration inherited, FIFA put zero dollars towards transporting World Cup fans. It also eliminated parking at MetLife Stadium, putting the burden of transporting four times more matchday riders than typical for an event at the stadium on NJ TRANSIT. This agreement will cost NJ TRANSIT at least $48 million, while FIFA is positioned to make $11 billion during the World Cup. As I have said repeatedly, FIFA should cover the cost of transporting its fans. If it won’t, we will not be subsidizing World Cup ticket holders on the backs of New Jerseyans who rely on NJ TRANSIT every day.

[🟢] NEW: It is worth noting that Klopp’s own team also wasn’t built overnight and was the product of around five windows. This is partly why Liverpool still back Arne Slot and believe a full rebuild under him is yet to take place. Hughes remains committed to that task. The fact Hughes and FSG’s CEO of football Michael Edwards are both out of contract at the same time in 2027, along with Slot, presents a challenge for FSG. Liverpool’s current strategy has been built on Edwards’ player trading, which may also require some senior player exits moving forward. The plan is to have a stable summer as far as any senior executive restructuring is concerned and an active one in relation to trading led by Hughes. BREAKING: The House narrowly failed to pass a resolution to end Trump’s war with Iran, losing by a single vote, 213–214. Only one Democrat, Jared Golden, voted with Republicans to allow the war effort to continue.

FIFA is charging fans up to $10,000 for a single ticket to the final. They’re charging over $200 for “premium” parking at the American Dream Mall – while eliminating parking at MetLife Stadium. They’re set to make $11 billion off of the World Cup overall. But New Jerseyans should foot a $48 million bill for transportation costs? Not happening.

To Recap: Our Administration inherited an agreement where FIFA contributes $0 toward transportation for the World Cup – while also eliminating parking at MetLife Stadium. Except for premium parking, where FIFA is charging over $200 per spot. As a result, NJ TRANSIT must carry four times the usual ridership for events at the venue, at a cost of $48 million. New Jerseyans shouldn’t be stuck with that bill while FIFA makes $11 billion in profits.
