@ZealandEarly Qantas bought a few 737s from Silk Air - you might be flying on one of those. Is the livery completely white?

If you want to feel some early 2000s nostalgia, fly Qantas😅. Must be on one of their oldest Boeing 737s, no screens on back of seats, & those old communal screens (just used for safety video on this flight). Does have wifi, otherwise it would be a proper trip back in time.

In 2023, Massachusetts added a new "Millionaire" surtax. Some people claimed it would spark "tax flight" and rich people would leave the state. We know how data on 2023 migration, and there's just no evidence of that at all. In fact, high-income outmigration rates dropped.

@nicholasphilp Wouldn't have made any difference - NZ would be equally unable to import crude oil from Middle East, as it currently unable to import refined fuel

Emirates EK449 heading back to Auckland. It'll be a 15.5h flight to nowhere! Flight to Dubai is typically 16h which explains endurance, but why go back rather than divert? It's home for a lot of pax & avoids immigration challenges that some will experience at diversion point.

There are 26 Emirates, Qatar & Etihad passenger aircraft on ground in Australia, 3 more to come. That's a lot of unexpected aircraft and passengers to handle! EK: 11+3 (8x A380 2x B77W 1x A350; 3x A380 to come) QR: 12 (11x B77W 1x A359) EY: 3 (1x B789 2x A351)

@analyticflying @AeroSocietyNZ Our DXB-AKL flight did the same route last month, it was really cool to overfly Tasmania! Though that leg over the Indian Ocean goes forever

Yesterday's Emirates Dubai→Auckland flight (EK448) went so far south it went around entire Australian mainland! Eastbound flight typically goes further south than great circle route to catch strong westerlies, but yesterday's flight almost avoided the whole of Australia!

You cannot expect to have all the convenience of inner city living without having to live near a tall building! If you want a pool that will never be affected by shade, go live on a lifestyle block in Kumeu

@Keg767 Our EK flight got deiced in Paris a few days ago. Captain gave numerous updates incl. a heads up before pushback, time updates and explanation about the cold cruise temperature and the steam is normal. The only people moaning were the Aussies sitting in the row behind me!

These sorts of mis-understandings can be avoided with the right communication from the flight deck. However de-icing is a massively workload intensive time for the crew and lots of things have to come together in a sequence. That can sometimes preclude long explanations.

De-icing is conducted once everything and everyone is loaded. Otherwise it is ineffective and in the past that has caused planes to crash. Further, service isn’t possible on the ground due to laws that require the aisles to be kept free in case evacuation is needed.
