@nic_carter @AGHamilton29 He wants to be governor/prez (lol). His formula is to tell all the SV types what they want to hear & take in their cash, then throw them under the bus to get the DSA/gov union/NGO blob’s blessing. Same thing Gallego and every other BS moderate did. Idk how the grift still works.

everyone in silicon valley, including me, thought ro khanna was a moderate, pro tech guy. he spent a decade specifically cultivating that image. I mean silicon valley is literally in his district. he ran and won on a pro-tech message. at some point in the last 12 months he decided to lean into the conspiratard dirtbag DSA left, for reasons completely unknown. eviscerated his entire stock of social capital.

This isn’t a few people. Ro Khanna has gone around for several years telling everyone whatever he thought they wanted to hear. His whole political career is built around being an attention-seeking fraud with no actual beliefs.

After the last Presidential election, Ro Khanna reached out. We had a short meeting where he pitched himself as the centrist, pro-DOGE, pro-Elon Democrat. I didn’t follow up. He then steered hard left to feed his ambitions. This man blows with the wind. I have the receipts.

@JBSDC To be credible to anyone outside the Acelafornia bubble, it’ll also requires a lot of new blood from fields like engineering, construction, medicine etc (ppl who know how to do things in the real world), which the median Dem primary voter despises.

I feel like the synthesis of an angry Dem base but also a swing voter universe that is more moderate is to have radical pitching of moderate ideas. For instance, “We should have Medicare for all kids and those under 30” or “under my Admin, we will build 10 million houses.”

I’ve known Phoebe Gates online since she was a teen, so I might be biased but nothing in the Bloomberg reporting shows she personally engaged in wrongdoing. Phia’s browser extension opening background tabs and inserting affiliate codes comes from technical implementation choices made by engineers, not from Phoebe herself. She isn’t a software developer, she didn’t write the extension, and there is no evidence she directed anyone to override other affiliates or manipulate commissions. What happened is exactly the kind of over‑aggressive optimization that crops up in early‑stage tech products, especially in the messy world of affiliate tracking where scripts, libraries, and automated logic can behave in ways founders never intended. The reporting makes clear that independent researchers discovered the issue, Capital One Shopping flagged similar behavior, and Phia acknowledged the violation and fixed it. That sequence is consistent with a technical mistake, not a deliberate scheme. If Phoebe had intended to deceive, the company wouldn’t have immediately admitted the problem and patched the code. It’s far more plausible that she learned about the issue at the same moment the public did, then ensured her team corrected it. Her broader behavior reinforces this interpretation. She runs Phia like a normal startup founder—negotiating frugally with influencers, declining inflated rates, and trying to build a sustainable business rather than exploiting systems. Nothing about her conduct suggests someone orchestrating a covert affiliate‑fraud operation. The allegation is about code, not character, and the code was fixed as soon as the problem surfaced. The fairest conclusion is that Phoebe Gates did nothing wrong. A technical misconfiguration occurred, it was corrected, and there is no evidence she knew about it, intended it, or benefited from it in any deliberate way. If you want, I can also expand this into a more forceful version or reshape it into a legal‑style defense.

@biancoresearch The Fed is mostly Democrats. (People who want high rates during GOP admins and low rates during Dem admins) Warsh was always a hawk, except when he had to pander to Trump. He doesn’t need to pander to Trump anymore. There’s no way the Fed is going along with/ this.

1/9 Eric asks a reasonable question: what should be done about a future stock market slump? Specifically, should the Fed buy stocks? 🧵 tl:dr * The legal process for the Fed buying stocks means the Treasury actually owns them, the Fed finances it by extending loans to buy the stocks. * Trump will love this idea, as he wants a Sovereign Wealth Fund, and now has the Government holding several US companies. We suspect he will probably want these stocks as permanent government holdings, up to 20% of the stock market ($16n trillion of stocks). * This would balloon the Fed's balance sheet to $25 trillion (from $6.7 trillion now). * What would be the reaction to the balance sheet ballooning to $25 trillion? Bullish as that means massive buying of stocks? Bearish as the market fears another inflation spurt, and accompanied interest rate rise? Remember, 2022 inflation hit 9%, interest rates soared and the S&P 500 fell 25%. * We think the Fed buying of 2008 and 2020 worked to "save" markets as deflation was the bigger concern than inflation. But now with elevated inflation (as in the last 6 years), anything that looks inflationary would be received badly by financial markets. All these bullet points are detailed below.
Eric Balchunas@EricBalchunas

I published a note today that I've been thinking about for months.. About how the US stock market has arguably become too big and too imp to fail.. It's basically America's retirement fund now and poss even the savior of social security which is expected to run out of money in less than 10yrs -Curr 55% of ppl own stocks, by far most in world. And w/ Trump Accounts bringing in 28 million add'l americans into stock ownership the vast majority of ppl (incl Top 1% (who own HALF of stock mkt), middle class and lower income) will have financial interest in the health of stock mkt and they're all voters = the political pressure to keep stocks out of a prolonged bear market is going to be very powerful. -As such I think there's good chance the Fed will buy equity ETFs in the next major downturn to support market and it will be common practice going fwd. China and Japan already do this. They may even target certain sectors or Capex cos with the purchases. -This is a massive variable that I feel like is a blind spot among the experts out there and why the bears get run over time and time again altho I think investors are onto it as evidenced by the persistent flows into ETFs during pullbacks as well as a survey of 1000 ppl showing 3/4 of them are confident the Fed will bail out markets in next crisis. -This is just one byproduct of the 'Nothing Stops This Train' monetary supply explosion and debt extravaganza sweeping the world but esp in US which at this point feels irreversable.. Thoughts? lol

The Mayor's Office made a map of NYC's immigrant enclaves: Little Africa, Little Poland, Little Palestine. But they just couldn't figure out how to represent 11% of the city. Couldn't decipher where the Jews are from. Asked everyone. Huge riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Rent control is a stunning policy. The literature, the experts, and the repeated experience of reality all stand undivided in saying it's bad. But the public loves it. It's insanely popular. It's basically a 75:25 issue and voters want more of it.

SITUATION EXPLAINED: Why does rent control create the exact housing crisis it claims to solve? We asked @robkhenderson, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of Troubled. "If you just say, 'I'm going to make this thing cheaper,' or 'I'm going to prevent the price from increasing,' that sounds great to a lot of people because they don't understand how market economies work." "Often to make it more intuitive, I'll point out that in cities where they have implemented rent control policies, those are the cities that have the worst housing shortages. San Francisco, the Bay Area... they've had rent control policies for decades. Has that improved the housing situation or has it only made things worse?" "People would rather manipulate prices than to build more housing."

Somehow the jobs crisis facing young people in NYC continues to get very little attention. But it is being felt acutely at CUNY, where graduates are entering the roughest jobs market in years. Listen to the voices of students in this story by @troy_closson. They are telling us how worried and discouraged they are. We need to do everything we can to grow jobs in NYC so our young people have a pathway to a good career, and a chance to build their future here.

There was this guy on the early blogosphere named Victor Pride who wrote a series of articles about how modafinil was the real limitless drug. And then he got addicted to amphetamines, started flogging the dolphin 24/7 in a hotel room in thailand and then vomited up a demon while watching a televangelist, became a christian and was never heard from on the internet again.

Oil was +6% in before the public knew about the Iran strikes. Bonds and stocks were also sold. Obviously the market (insiders) knew and front ran it. Now the strikes are publicly known and as I type this Nasdaq is green. Not a coincidence. Probably also the top in yields here.
