I wish my dearest friend and brother Sheik (Professor) Isa Ali Pantami (@ProfIsaPantami), the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy the very best in the upcoming Governorship primary elections in Gombe state. I sincerely hope that he wins the nomination, that he flies our party flag and that he goes on to win the election. He is a pride to Nigeria and he would make a great Governor. May God lead and guide him and may He grant him victory.

The young Yusuf Maitama Sule, known by his title Dan Masani of Kano, was a traditionalist Nigerian statesman and diplomat who was one of the foremost politicians from northern Nigeria between the independence period and the early republic in the 1960s. He served as the first and only federal minister for national guidance.

What Do Mischief Makers Really Want? By Yasir A. Jubril One thing about politics is that some people can never be satisfied and it’s never meant to satisfy all. When a public official serves in government and leaves without any visible impact, the first question people ask is simple: What did he actually do for his people? Who did he empower? What projects did he attract? What difference did his years in office make? But when someone can point to clear contributions and measurable impact, a different kind of criticism suddenly emerges. This appears to be the case with Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami. In his recent interview on Channels Television, Pantami spoke about some of the opportunities and projects facilitated for the people of Gombe State during his time as Director-General of National Information Technology Development Agency and later as Minister of Communications and Digital Economy. From youth-focused digital programs to empowerment initiatives and projects spread across local government areas, his message was straightforward: while serving nationally, he remained mindful of the need to ensure his home state also benefited from available opportunities. That, ordinarily, should not be controversial. In fact, this is exactly what many Nigerians hope for from those who occupy strategic national positions, not just titles, but impact that can be felt by ordinary people. Perhaps the clearest proof of that impact is what happened recently, when groups of youths and supporters reportedly came together to purchase a governorship nomination form for Prof. Pantami, urging him to contest for Governor of Gombe State, reportedly without his prior consent. Regardless of anyone’s political preference, that gesture says a lot. People do not gather resources, mobilize themselves, and publicly rally behind someone they believe did nothing for them. Such support is often built over time through goodwill, access, empowerment, and visible connection with the people. This is why the outrage from some quarters feels less like genuine concern and more like discomfort. Had Pantami completed his service without attracting opportunities, empowering young people, or supporting projects in Gombe, these same critics would likely have been asking what tangible value his years in office brought to his state. Now that there is visible evidence of contribution, the complaint has changed. So the question remains: what exactly do these mischief makers want? Should public officials be condemned for remembering their roots and ensuring their communities are not left behind? Or is the real issue that visible performance naturally creates political goodwill? Public service should not become a liability simply because it earns appreciation. At the end of the day, narratives can be manufactured, but impact is difficult to erase. Projects can be seen. Opportunities can be traced. Beneficiaries can testify. And sometimes, the strongest response to criticism is not argument but evidence. @ProfIsaPantami

Dr., it is perfectly fine not to like someone, but relentlessly attacking or blindly criticizing a person simply because of personal dislike is neither fair nor constructive. Let’s acknowledge facts and contributions before passing judgment. Please!!!

Pantami was already a wealthy and successful businessman long before his appointments as DG and Minister. His status as a renowned religious scholar has not prevented him from serving his country effectively, and his faith and integrity continue to guide his work!! 3/4

It is expected that someone in academia or a public affairs commentator would be well-informed about governance and public service. A Minister represents his state. That is why every state in the federation has a minister. Pantami acted in the best interest of his state. 1/2

On Sheikh Isa Ali Pantami, again. I watched Sheikh Isa Ali Pantami’s interview on TVC. I completely agree with a friend who said that the Sheikh is overcommunicating about his aspiration to become an APC gubernatorial candidate in Gombe State. I will outline four reasons. 1. He said that as DG of NITDA and as a minister of Communication and Digital Economy, he secured 750 jobs for his people and executed projects in all local government areas in Gombe. Is this fair to other states and their people? 2. He admitted that he had to charter a flight from Abuja to Gombe to attend an APC meeting because he received late notice and could not travel by road due to some issues. 3. He said he personally gave the APC Gombe branch 50 million naira to attend a party convention. His team, whatever that may be, also gave the party an additional 45 million to attend yet another exercise in Abuja. He calls himself one of the “major sponsors of the party” in Gombe. 4. Sheikh proudly describes himself as a party leader, noting that even President Tinubu referred to him as such during the 2023 election campaign, thanks to the significant role he played in the merger of the CPC and ACN parties. I expect some harsh responses to this post. However, people who read to understand can see the risks posed by the above revelations. I am particularly concerned about his standing as a renowned religious scholar. Moreover, he stands to lose many admirers. I used to believe the Sheikh was not a politician like the rest of them, and so, once upon a time, I defended him. I thought his midnight prayer against the PDP was borne of concern for the calamity the party had brought upon us. Alas, it was for another reason. May Allah (SWT) guide us, amin. Muhsin

I will challenge this injustice of Gombe APC governorship consensus even if I lose my life doing it. If it’s direct primary, everybody knows, we will win. If there’s no justice, I will fight it legally, a fight like never seen before in Nigeria. - Prof. Isa Ali Pantami told BBC Hausa

Update: We have received several invitations for Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, CON, from media outlets to discuss the coronation ceremony that took place in Gombe yesterday, described as a "consensus" which is completely against the law. Why is the major beneficiary of primary elections now running away from it? Details of each media outlet and the scheduled time could be updated in due course. May Allah bless Gombe State and may Allah bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Signed: Professor Suleiman Mohammed

While Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, CON was in Abuja today evening, we heard about the emergence of a coronation which is called a "consensus" for all the elective positions in Gombe State. Legally, there can be no valid consensus without involving the aspirants who have obtained or completed their expression of interest and nomination forms. We advise all our supporters to remain calm and law-abiding. However, the total disregard for the provisions of the law cannot be ignored by us. The Nigeria Electoral Act, 2026, outlines the modes of nomination in Section 84 (2): Political parties are restricted to only two methods for selecting candidates in which coronation is not among them. The two methods are: 1) Consensus: A candidate may emerge if all cleared aspirants provide written consent to step down. If even one aspirant refuses, the party must revert to a direct primary. 2) Direct Primaries: Every registered party member has the right to vote directly for their preferred aspirant. The action is completely contrary to the provisions of the law, the directive of the National Party, and the instruction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We urge our supporters to get ready for direct primaries after addressing major challenges in the APC database in the state. Our legal team is also working on addressing the challenges and observations. May Allah bless Gombe State and may Allah bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thank you all. Signed: Professor Suleiman Mohammed From Gombe State. (On Behalf of all Supporters and members of Pantamiyya Movement). 03/May/2026
