"He's coming out when he makes mistakes. No. Unless you don't dive on the floor, you don't run back or something like that." Head Coach John Calipari, after the 82-58 win against Fresno State, on the effort he demands from his team. #WPS 📺⤵️ nwahomepage.com/sports/pig-tra…

Mike Brown on instituting offensive concepts: "Our staples…pace, spacing, paint touches, quick decisions, ball reversals…Our 'automatics'…reads…play conceptually w/o calls…hard to guard…Implementing gonna take time…Preseason…gonna get frustrating…Don't skip steps"

Summer intentions & actions say a lot about you. Missing workouts with no communication, being late & always making excuses eliminates a lot of players from any leadership role. Leaders show up & do hard things; they hold themselves & others accountable and they lead by example!

@JoelCressman Awesome post. I’m a big proponent for SSG, use it daily. Do you believe a 5-8yr old 1st yr player could start and be successful solely through this approach. Is there still a place to still develop/establish a baseline via stationary/linear ball handling drills?

What’s the difference between using a play-based vs. traditional skill-and-drill approach? Here’s what a study on youth basketball players found:

The Best Players Do Boring Better. What do they do? - Focus on fundamentals - Give attention to detail - Show up early - Do extra reps - Stay late These things separate good from great. Trust the Process. Do Boring Better.

Players need representative practice design. Player development/practice through an ecological lens helps with this. When you train & get reps vs. air and expect it to translate to all the things that happen in a physical, unpredictable environment there is little to no transfer!

PLAYERS: There will come a time when your season asks you what you did during off-season. Every day is a chance to get better. You don't have to tell anyone how committed you are - just show them!.

Your body language is the billboard to your mental toughness. • Eye Contact • Head Nods • Positive Touch How you communicate when you’re not playing well speaks volumes.

It never ceases to amaze me how much of winning basketball simply comes down to playing harder and having more “want to” than the opposition. This is true during games, in the weight room, during skill work, at practice, in the off season. The competition never really ends.

Parents of 6,7,8th graders. (Boys and girls) Coaches are not watching\recruiting your kid. Enjoy watching them work their asses of and playing the game they love. I didn’t see many players enjoying the game today. Lots of unnecessary stress for no reason. Harp on development.
