Should you short $VIX or go long here? I don’t have a very strong opinion, but short is definitely smarter than long. The front $VIX future is trading at 18.40, that’s high. You can’t get exposure at any other price. All $VIX options you’re buying are priced off futures at 18.40, not 16, which means an at-the-money call only pays if VIX goes above 21. Does that really sound like a good deal to you? So the only real question is: at 18.40, do you buy $VIX or short it by shorting $VXX, $UVXY, $UVIX or long $SVIX? I don’t see great opportunities either way, but if you forced me, shorting looks better. Unless, of course, you’ve got inside info from God that the market’s about to crash.

@apoorv1 2/2 and you pay a 40bps spread on OI on top of a potential taker fee your hedge is so expensive that there is no scenario where it makes sense. Product for shitcoin yield or DeFi punters but so far I don´t see a usecase for serious liquidity.

@apoorv1 I was really excited about boros since it´s a viable attempt at interest rate swaps...unfortunately the fee model renders it basically useless for integrating it into a serious yield portfolio as a hedging product. On normal days the 30d yields are within 50bps annualized 1/2

Plenty of niche arbitrage opportunities can be run on 10k accounts and generate 20x that. Capital efficiency is extremely high for these things

Bitcoin futures market on native crypto exchanges: The top 3 exchanges control over 95% of the market. No coincidence they also lead the options market since delta hedging with the underlying contract it's a no-brainer. A niche market dwarfed by perpetuals. But a market that likely wouldn’t exist without options trading.

Wow, the two metrics that can easily be manipulated without putting on actual directional size at the end are massively (way beyond normal) positive, but volume (the one that requires actual OI) is not skewed nearly as much

My goal in trading crypto, options, and small caps is to grow my capital quickly, then switch to less risky strategies like long/short equities and fixed income. In that style, you spend more time reading, meeting people, and analyzing vs. staring at screens or coding.
