Sometimes I shake my head in quiet disbelief listening to a former student activist, once expelled for burning the Nigerian flag and raising the hammer and sickle flag of communists in its place, now defending assaults on democracy in Nigeria.

Alfred Rewane was said to be financier of NADECO. The military decided to eliminate him. The only problem is, they couldn't access his house without an insider. An insider was hired to lead the death squad, that Insider spoke Rewane's language when they knocked. Rewane was killed

Arthur Nwankwo, Ojo Madueke, Ralph Uwechue, and Ndubuisi Kanu were giants of NADECO. Chima Ubani was the officer commanding in the streets. So also Joel Obi. All Igbos. May their souls rest in peace.

Gani, Chagoury, Abacha and Tinubu History repeats itself, first as farce, later as tragedy (Karl Max) In 1995, I was with Gani in Hotel Presidential. We were defense counsel to Ken Saro-Wiwa and Ogoni leaders. Someone told Gani that the hotel has been leased to Chagoury family. Gani was livid. “Why did you bring me to Abacha hotel? Don’t you know I am at war with Abacha? Don’t you know that Chagoury is Abacha, Abacha is Chagoury” Gani ordered that we leave the hotel that night. The Ogoni leaders who brought us there begged and apologized. But we left. Gani knew Abacha and Chagoury were inseparable. It is ironic that the man who is NADECO and supposedly fought against Abacha is deep in bed with Abacha closest undertakers. Tinubu has changed even what NADECO means. He has blurred all boundaries and destroyed categories Gani would be completely surprised at Bayo Onanuga et al taking orders from Abacha bag men.

BREAKING ADC is taking its fight for democracy global. As part of our efforts to strengthen international engagement, we are establishing a Special Representatives Network across key global capitals to engage foreign governments, amplify credible information about Nigeria’s political environment, and counter one-sided government narratives. This comes amid growing attacks on our members, attempts to undermine our leadership, and efforts to restrict political participation ahead of the 2027 General Elections. Our representatives will engage foreign governments, international media, democracy institutions, and the Nigerian diaspora, providing regular briefings on political developments, human rights concerns, and electoral integrity. We are also launching a National Documentation Initiative to systematically track and report incidents affecting political participation across Nigeria. From Washington DC to London, Brussels to Addis Ababa, ADC is building a global platform for accountability. Nigeria’s democracy must be seen, heard, and defended everywhere.

Do you know how clean a politician background has to be, to poke Tinubu and his gang of looters and go to bed with his two eyes closed? It can only be Peter Obi!

What exactly is the outrage over Obi's remark on NADECO figures who have since turned their backs on the very ideals they once championed? Where is the falsehood in pointing out that some who once wore the badge of democracy now act with unmistakable autocratic instincts?

Tinubu in Jos Confirms ‘Don't Vote for Me’ Prediction on Power Supply During the 2023 campaign, President Tinubu made a clear electoral promise: “If I don’t give you constant electricity in four years, don’t vote for me for a second term.” When he took office in 2023, Nigeria had a power supply of over 4,000 megawatts and lower tariffs. Today, the electricity power supply is less than 4,000 megawatts on the average, and Nigerians are paying higher tariffs. Nigeria currently has the lowest per capita electricity consumption in the world, with a rate below 30% of the African average. Africa’s average is 617kwh, Nigeria’s is 144 kWh. This means that Nigerians consume least electricity than other Africans. In a glaring display of disregard for promises and a lack of trust, President Tinubu, during a brief airport stopover to visit grieving families of the Jos attack on Thursday, April 2, 2026, stated that one of the reasons for his 10-minute stay was that the airport had no electricity. “You have no light here I fly out in ten minutes” At a time when Nigerians are enduring days without power, our leaders cannot even stay a few minutes without it. Now is the time to stop incompetent leaders—those lacking the capacity and compassion—who prioritise their own comfort over the well-being of the people and make empty promises. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

OBJ was never a NADECO member nor pretended to be one but once he became President, he went after Al-mustapha and other "killer squad" allies of the man. He sought for the recovery of Abacha's loot scattered across the globe and drove Chagoury, the man's bag man out of Nigeria. Tinubu who claims to be a NADECO member and "hero", who ought to know better did the opposite. He embraced Abacha's allies and awarded GCON on Chagoury in the man's bedroom

I have left politics Twitter since 2023 but this NADECO issue might tempt me back. That we have gotten to a point where we are now comparing the worse administration between Tinubu and Abacha tells you all that you need to know about how appalling Tinubu’s government has been. Since 2023, do you know how many people lost their lives in Nigeria under Tinubu? No way you want to tell me that more people lost their lives under Abacha. No way! Bring the stats! Today, people can’t even travel by road again in Nigeria because of the fear of kidnapping and fulani herdsmen. It was never this bad under Abacha, no way! My cousin was posted to the North by NYSC and the family have agreed that she’s not going. Things are that bad!

Dear Akin, I am surprised you interpreted Peter Obi's tweet in this manner. You see, when you are talking to a professor of English, there are certain mistakes you don't expect him to make. You expect near-perfect use of English from him. Therefore, the yardstick you use to evaluate him will be different from the one you use to evaluate an O-level holder. This is exactly the point Obi was making in his tweet. With people who fought the military now in charge, Nigerians, including Obi, expected a near-perfect system of respect for the rule of law. We can't use the same standard we used for Abacha to judge NADECO members. Therefore, if they score 35% and Abacha scored 30%, we would conclude that Abacha, being a military officer, did better. This is exactly the same way we would conclude that an O-level holder who scored 30% did better than a professor of English who scored 35% on an English Language test. This is exactly the point Obi expressed in that tweet.
Akin Olaoye@akintollgate

Power does reveal character, but history isn’t optional. Abacha’s regime brought military dictatorship, Ogoni executions, Kudirat’s assassination, billions looted, and a gagged press with many living in fear of being locked in dungeons. Some families never recovered from the trauma and those old wounds have not healed fully. NADECO activists weren’t perfect including a few relatives of mine, but equating them as “worse” than that era romanticizes real atrocities many Nigerians suffered. Let’s critique today’s failures on rule of law and accountability across all sides, but let’s not rewrite the past to score points. I would equally frown tomorrow if someone says endsars protesters, are worse than murderous/criminal police officers. A New Nigeria needs facts, not selective memory. Let’s build Nigeria forward with truth. 🇳🇬

This is Oyinlola, a governor of Lagos state when Abacha was Head of State. What he is saying that BAT was a snitch and that he wanted to be the civilian deputy governor of Lagos state in the 90's when Abacha was Head of State. Listen and you will know BAT was always a snitch.
