It's become clear that some people are not aware of why I have this sentiment, and assume I'm just stirring up drama. No. I did at one time fear for my well-being, it's just something I hadn't brought up personally til now. During the height of the NixOS drama of 2024. Patka released to NixOS community that I worked (and still do) at Anduril (a defense company). Later, another contributor, delroth, painted me as a Peter Thiel shill that was complaining about minority representation @delroth/112236013811613910" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mastodon.delroth.net/@delroth/11223…. Casual usage of the word "nazi" and "fascist" was being thrown around to describe me (generally reserved to mastodon and non-NixOS channels). Eventually, it was normalized to call me things like, "a waste of time", "idiot", "diseased flesh" on official NixOS platforms. This culminated with several "fuck you's" by the likes of delroth and others, and I was suspended soon after because I was "obviously acting in bad faith, and provoking contributors". During my suspension, things were obviously still tense. One NixOS moderator (piegames) calling my actions defending my character on the r/NixOS subreddit as "spreading far-right misinformation". For several months, my reputation of years and thousands of hours of contributions to NixOS got reduced down to being reduced to a caricature of a "right-wing chud fascist nazi". On one of my youtube videos, someone asked me how my wife (by first name) was doing. This is when I began to actual fear for my well-being. Although nothing came from this. It was deeply unsettling in combination with the knowledge that people were previously looking into my personal life, and in conjunction with spreading a malicious representation of who I am as a person. For weeks I was concerned about how things would potentially escalate for myself and my wife. I say all this, because Charlie Kirk was a controversial person to many. But I believe that routine usage of defamatory language escalated the "perceived threat" that he posed to many. Although someone may have convinced themself that calling someone a "fascist" or "nazi" is "the right thing to say to that person". The person you're referring to is still a human being, and that language instills fear into people. Normalizing such usage is not acceptable at all. As for NixCon, I wasn't sure how these individuals, who spent months calling me fascist and nazi in their own circle, would react to me in person. How much of my personal life have they looked into? Maybe the interaction will just be awkward tension or maybe they still perceive me as a great threat to their existence and want to act in a more drastic manner. How was I to know? I didn't. My takeaway for people is that there's a person on the other side of the monitor when you're engaging with them online. Try to treat them how you would in person: with some amount of compassion and benefit of good faith. Don't unduly attribute malice where there is none. Charlie Kirk represented free speech dialogue and debate. Something which all Americans should value and cherish. Even if you don't agree with his politics, rhetoric, or views. No one deserves to be the target of such directed hate. Prayers for Charlie Kirk and his loved ones. He was taken too soon, and a great void has been left by his absence.
Jonathan Ringer@jonringer117

It was a good idea to avoid NixCon 2024. Really doesn't matter who you are as a person. Just matters what they think you embody. RIP Charlie Kirk

How difficult and/or unreasonable is it to use modern haskell.nix in a pre-flake setup? Are there any pointers towards that end?

This study fairly obviously shows no relationship between blood LDL-C concentrations and CAC scores. Yet the authors conclude: "These results highlight the multifactorial character of atherosclerosis as a disease not only driven by LDL-C levels, despite their causal pathophysiological role". Typical nonsensical, non-scientific writing. The conclusion should be: LDL-C levels were unrelated to CAC scores. Hence the study shows that LDL-C is not a driver of increased CAC scores or a predictor of likely future risk for cardiovascular disease. Instead they imply that because they know that LDL-C has a "causal pathophysiological role" in the development of coronary atherosclerosis, then LDL-C scores must be a driver, even if their data do not support that conclusion. So because they could find no evidence for a causal relationship, they conclude that the disease is clearly "multifactorial" and driven "not only by LDL-C levels". Thus they interpret their study as exonerating LDL-C from being a non-cause of coronary artery calcification. Amazing what you can achieve by manipulating the English language. I'm guessing the peer reviewers of this article were either friends of the authors or were indebted to the Lipid Hypothesis for their own positions of privilege. I'm guessing that the authors were also not particularly independent. @robertlufkinmd @DrAseemMalhotra @MaryanneDemasi @malcolmken

Which is better for risk of cardiovascular events, LDL-C or CT CAC? Across all LDL-C levels, absence of CAC was associated with low rates of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with increasing rates in patients with greater CAC burden. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

When a CoC complaint was brought by me against Greg KH's libel against the researcher, causing his name to show up on news sites saying he tried to "backdoor" the kernel, the board (which Greg KH is a member of), surprisingly found no violations, no apology necessary.

Opus nails it. It is able to understand under what circumstances blocks can be adjacent (they must be split from larger blocks), and put it together into a correct argument why it's notpossible.
