Identity politics is the political equivalent of using gas in the trenches of WW1. Its results are too horrific and evil for either side to profit from much of it. Only the credible threat of each side being able to retaliate with their own form of it, ironically, prevented them being used again in WW2. Identity politics is used by people of all political stripes for lethal, crippling, profound attacks. When you've been attacked by them, the only thing that will stop a ruthless enemy is the mutually assured horror that you can unleash with your own identity politics.

@iamSwaga22 @tomriddle770 "Fresh off the boat" means a recent migrant, it doesn't refer only to those who literally arrived by sea.

No one comes off the boat to do a care job Don’t be stupid
svengali@_imey

@PippyBing Just because something is hard or difficult or strenuous, doesn't mean it's skilled. The fact that we have fresh off the boat migrants with no qualifications doing the work testifies to that.

@iKMooya @PippyBing Private care homes make lucrative profits, but they won't raise wages until forced to by the labour market. Thanks for pointing out that it's not about race. Cheap migrant labour is scabbing against the union that is the nation.

@_imey @PippyBing Exactly, if you can't afford to pay the reasonable wages then you will hire cheap labour... It was eastern Europeans only 10 years ago and it was the same discourse. Nothing has changed but the colour of the migrants

@iKMooya @PippyBing The wages won't rise whilst there is an endless stream of foreigners willing to work for minimum wage. Only a labour shortage will raise wages.

@_imey @PippyBing Hence why migrants are welcome to do those certain jobs... migrants aren't to blame but blame the people setting the wage structures and hopefully more British people it'll apply

@_imey @PippyBing Those fresh off the boat migrants need a degree to be a nurse and have to be able to remain compliant with UK standards which requires regular competency testing. They will accept lower wages but these africans have jobs because a load of europeans don’t want them

@iKMooya @PippyBing British people demand better pay to work such jobs. To do otherwise is a race to the bottom, a competition to see who will tolerate the worst conditions for the lowest pay.

@_imey @PippyBing "Fresh off the boat with no qualifications" If that's the case and Fresh people off the boat poeple are taking jobs from British people... Then the British people have to take a whole long look at themselves why? You can't blame migrants for taking jobs British people dont want

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household"

@JakesJohBee @PippyBing I have better alternatives, desperate Africans are willing to do unpleasant work for poverty wages rather than go home to Africa.

@ScotNational I hope they hunt them anyway. It's their culture. What right do some city-slickers in an Edinburgh office have to tell the Hebrideans how to live?

@EireGalloglaigh So if identity is based on culture and belonging, then newcomers who reject Irish culture and refuse to integrate should be deported, yes?

"but if a Japanese person comes here and calls themselves Irish-" Yes, they're Irish. No, they wouldn't think we're Japanese if we went to Japan and called ourselves Japanese either. 1/3

@Channel4News A whole load of innuendo. It's perfectly legal for British citizens living abroad to be registered to vote. Residency, for election purposes, is a different legal concept to residency for tax purposes.

UK cryptobillionaire Christopher Harborne is one of the biggest donors in British political history - his millions have put Reform UK on the map. But our investigations team has seen evidence that he has played the electoral system, by declaring Thailand as his home while also at times continuing to claim residency in Hampshire. He’s recently moved back, although when we visited his small village no one we spoke to had ever seen him. It’s illegal to say you’re a resident somewhere if you’re not - but when asked about Mr Harborne, the council told us they cannot comment on individual cases. The Electoral Commission is understood to be in touch with the local council about our findings. Mr Harborne declined to comment on our findings but his lawyers insisted he complied with all applicable laws regarding his resident status.
