I've been praying the past few weeks. Unsure why. There's good evidence behind prayer. It mimics breathwork, calming the nervous system, dropping cortisol, and quieting the brain. Daily prayers show lower depression, anxiety, and pain. I'd like to develop a prayer practice. Growing up, the protocol was written for me. Explaining whom to pray to, the structure of the prayer, and the boundary conditions. I don't really know how to pray now.

Ahhh yes, the ((Jews)) are mobilizing their giant diaspora to game the Eurovision voting!! Just look at all these countries where Israel won the popular vote, like Albania, Finland and Portugal - all known for their thriving Jewish communities.

Outside a restaurant, I see a young man in cook's clothing squatting, scrolling his phone. Not too long ago, it would have been a cigarette break instead of a phone break Why is this stuff not heavily controlled? It is retinal fentanyl on tap. Our society is sick. Our children!

The lack of NBA playoff action tonight forced me to watch the Freeway Series, and now I’m thinking about blaming my father for choosing the Angels when he moved to Long Beach in 1964.

@hamilt73000 @Noahpinion I must be looking at different charts. These ones all have steeper rates of decline well prior to the shaded region.

@jeremymstamper @mcuban It’s confounding. His take is “add this completely random tax”, and his defense is: 1. It will raise revenue (duh) 2. It will get companies to focus on cost? So incoherent.

These companies already have enormous financial incentives to reduce inference costs because compute is their single largest expense. A tax of less than fifty cents per million tokens is trivial compared to GPU costs, datacenter build‑outs, and electricity bills. It’s unlikely to change engineering priorities that are already intensely focused on efficiency. And as models evolve toward multimodal architectures and continuous representations, the importance of tokenization itself is diminishing. The lever simply doesn’t connect to the behavior it’s meant to influence.

We should federally tax Tokens at the Provider level. Not a lot. Less than 50c per million tokens. It will accomplish 4 things (at least ) 1. It will push the big AI players to optimize tokenization, caching , routing and localization Which will 2. Reduce energy usage. Saving them in energy costs more than what they paid in tax and reducing strain created by the growth in energy consumption Which will 3. Generate maybe 10 billion dollars a year to start, but over the next ten years could grow 30x to 100x Which will 4. Create a source of funding to pay down the federal debt or deploy, in response to the things AI brings that we don’t expect or don’t like At some point the models will pass it on to customers. Of course. That’s ok. Customers will have the ability to choose between providers. Or to do everything using open source models locally. Thoughts ?
