@martin_casado @ankrgyl a more generalisable model that makes sense to me is this - low throughput + high latency = low cpu, low memory high throughput + high latency = low cpu, high memory high throughput + low latency = high cpu, high memory low throughput + low latency = high cpu, low memory

@ankrgyl Hahah. Such a database view of the world. The networking version is latency and throughput.

repeat after me there is a trade-off between latency and memory consumption.

@jhleath > i'm currently ruthlessly eliminating any interaction with aws services (including s3) what's the alternative? rolling self hosted equivalent stack?

people don't realize how slow s3 is. the difference between daytona and e2b in this report is about a single call to s3. top of mind because i'm currently ruthlessly eliminating any interaction with aws services (including s3) in the path that mounts an archil disk. super critical for agent workloads that need to mount an archil file system when sandboxes start.

It's benchmark Friday and @daytonaio wins out today.

People leaving regular companies: Time for a change! Excited for my next chapter! People leaving AI companies: I have gazed into the endless night and there are shapes out there. We must be kind to one another. I am moving on to study philosophy.

@jamesacowling towards the end you mention "learn(ing) about clean design and architecture". what are the ways you recommend for learning it?

Instead of writing to “everyone” (substack), or writing to “no one” (journaling), consider writing to “someone” (email). It’s kind of magical.

@_mnpw In all sincerity - did you try asking them? (Which also doubles up as a nice compliment to the cafe/staff)

there comes a point in your de-intellectualising journey where you have to abandon what you know for what you are

now I have anecdotally confirmed that mild narcissism (especially, speaking over other people) is a necessary condition for commercial success

Most agent sandboxes only allow external control via APIs, even though modern agents already know when to rewind or branch. So I built a runtime that lets agents control execution themselves: harness.tonbo.dev

the cold start problem is very real for me so I often take hours to boot up and start working. claude (my son) has been surprisingly effective in ploughing throw the drudgery and helping me boot up. turns out all you need is a relentless and smart little side-kick

As I was mulling an upgrade from Fuji X-T3 to X-T5 I met an actual photographer using an X-T2 ; This was a good learning moment. Tools aren't better until you are a master after which it does not really matter anyway.
