@SecretaryTurner @WhiteHouse If we own the dirt beneath our feet, how come the state can take it away if we don’t continue to pay property taxes?

🚨 JUST IN: The Chicago Bears just APPROVED a massive plan to flee the blue city of Chicago, and Mayor Brandon Johnson is furious and STUNNED The Bears are headed to RED INDIANA 👏🏻 FAFO 🔥 This is blue policies coming back to severely bite them. Indiana’s GOP Governor is predictably ecstatic! Exactly what happens when you destroy your city from within.

I was out rolling some putts last night at the local CC. They have a Carolina PGA Qualifier going on there today. I was shocked at how poor of shape the place is in right now. What an embarrassing moment for the membership on a big stage.

I remember the first pure'd iron shot I ever felt. I hit with these. I had hit my drive up the right side of #9 at Greystone CC. I was in the second cut. 170yds out and pulled 6i. I was 18yrs old. Walking and playing by myself. Pure'd it to 8ft. Have loved TA 845s since then. Currently play the TAIII designed @Sub70 and they pure the same way. Traded them on a set of Titleist DCI's.
MYGOLFSPY@MyGolfSpy

I'd bet cold, hard cash these would still finish in the top 5 of iron testing 40 years later... 😳

@BenzNPenz @JimMellody2 @mynamehear Oh and no one talks of suburbs when in day to day with someone they haven’t met they typically reference the closest metro area and then quickly correct if someone knows said area to where they are actually living.

@BenzNPenz @JimMellody2 @mynamehear Because they don’t want to live next door to the rifraf but stay in the ‘area’ beyond the folks that can’t afford cars due to they can’t hold a min wage job.

The South is amazing. Imagine making absolutely zero progress in basically any area for 160 years. That's almost a talent.

First, no one, including me, should diminish the wonderful contribution of Jim Barksdale. He should be acknowledged and thanked profusely. However, it was not the root cause or a solo driver of the post-2013 gains. Mississippi’s dramatic rise (from ~49th in 4th-grade reading in 2013 to top ~9–21st nationally by the early 2020s, with even stronger demographic-adjusted rankings) is widely attributed to these interconnected state actions: Literacy-Based Promotion Act (LBPA, passed April 2013): The centerpiece. It required a shift to the “science of reading” (explicit, systematic phonics instruction) in K–3, moving away from less effective whole-language or balanced-literacy approaches. Annual teacher training in evidence-based methods (e.g., the Language Essentials for Teaching Reading and Spelling program). Deployment of state-trained reading coaches, especially in high-need (Title I) schools. Early screening for struggling readers (three times per year), individualized reading plans, and intensive interventions. A “third-grade gate”: Students had to demonstrate reading proficiency on a state test to advance to 4th grade (with limited good-cause exemptions). Retention rates for 3rd grade rose modestly in some years but were paired with remediation. Under State Superintendent Carey Wright (starting 2013), the Mississippi Department of Education implemented the law aggressively. The legislature allocated ~$15 million annually for reading coaches and additional millions for training—significant for one of the nation’s lowest-spending states per pupil. Reforms built on earlier standards work and test alignment closer to NAEP. Dr. Carey Wright was the Mississippi State Superintendent of Education from 2013 to June 2022, becoming the longest-serving superintendent in state history. Credited with driving significant academic improvements known as the "Mississippi miracle," she led reforms that elevated the state's literacy rates and NAEP rankings from 50th to 21st in 4th-grade reading

Some people are already in my DMs calling me all kinds of fun things for sharing the above. I’m not justifying the practice from insurers in the slightest, nor is it my personal opinion…but the hard numbers from these insurance companies are right there in black and white. That’s just the reality of it. Reporting on or discussing these matters — some of which could frankly be bordering on illegal — does not equal endorsing them.

I’ve seen this video from Rolling Loud last weekend floating around, and it feels like a good time to share a conversation I had last year. I was talking with a notable festival promoter last fall who directly told me they had largely stopped booking rap and hip-hop acts for one major reason: insurance. According to them, many insurance companies were dramatically increasing premiums whenever those artists were on the lineup because they viewed the associated crowd risk as “significantly higher” than other genres of music. Those aren’t my words…that was directly from someone dealing with (and paying for) the logistics + insurance coverage of events. So if you start seeing certain artists slowly disappear from mixed-genre festivals or specific markets, situations like the above are absolutely part of the equation whether people realize it or not.

@Cackalacman @TheCalebSurface Fully agree. They def aren’t solina or marketed anywhere near as much. I am most interested in lex county taking over hidden valley. Could be a nice mini based on layout.

That’s about what it was when I was there. They raised their rates and committed to their reno when Solina opened but frankly don’t think it was justified to up the money to the same level essentially. . Them and Solina are the only game in town though here. If Solina were a CC and closer to Lex vs a GC and 20min further out it would be diff.

@GolfingGamecock @Cackalacman Hills is okay just insanely overbooked that very few times will you experience 18 in less than 4.5 hours and that’s lucky. That said it is a challenging course. Short but narrow and many greens will throw you. Don’t get me started on that #2 green….
