@daniel_nguyenx SwiftUI is garbage technology. Apple clearly doesn’t give a shit anymore

This is the sidebar with 100k items already loaded in memory (so no lazy loading trick). NSOutlineView is both performant and memory efficient.
SwiftUI List unfortunately takes a long time to even load the items and basically just hangs.
To be fair, this is an extreme case that SwiftUI List was probably not designed for. In a chat app like BoltAI, most of the time user only need to work with a few dozen chats at a time.
The real performance issue, in my case, was the latency when switching chat. With SwiftUI List, I could see a 30-40ms delay from selection reconciliation.
But more on that later 🫡

I rewrote some of the components from SwiftUI to AppKit and the performance is significantly better. For some operations, it's 3x faster. But it wasn't the hype-y "SwiftUI is slow, AppKit is fast" headline. SwiftUI can still be very fast but it does require extra works. I'll share more soon!

@GeringerAdam Brick pavers are awful. Bad on cars, bikes and skateboards. Agree with the rest

Bury the power lines, use brick pavers, and change the streetlights

@_notnotjake @Mookafish No, the ship spun around. They only showed us the first bit of the video. Rewatch the launch stream after the video drone is launched. The attitude indicator shows that the ship did a 360 roll and actuated its flaps for about 5 minutes after the drone was launched.

"This was our test to try and develop a free-flyer that we could fire out of Starship's payload bay, look back at it... to get a look at the heat shield"
I'm not sure if SpaceX just wants to use a modified Starlink satellite for a few more test flights or if they actually want to make a dedicated space craft which goes up with every ship and possibly comes back into the payload bay to be reused. I would love to see something like that simply because it might be the cutest little guy in the space industry.

@justalexoki believe it or not they are still used in medical places quite heavily. perhaps hippa makes it harder to use ai translation in those situations…

@flowersslop @Altimor yeah, it’s so close minded. I went through some existential crisis early on abt it so I understand where they’re coming from but optimism is our moral duty.
