Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command. It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards. Automated snapshots were gone too. In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again. If you use Terraform (or let agents touch infra), this is a good story for you to read. alexeyondata.substack.com/p/how-i-droppe…

@dhh There must be a correlation between existing code on the www and those scores. LLMs had to learn everything from the www. Right? 🤔

Opus produced the best output with Ruby in this shoot-out between a bunch of different languages. Fewest tokens, fewest LOCs, fastest completion. Maybe one day, AI will just be writing straight machine code, but until then, Ruby is a superb target. dev.to/mame/which-pro…

@dhh Indeed! I wonder if companies are ready for the 10x? Solving a (supposedly) bottleneck will only lead to the next one... 😅

Hilarious how we used to earnestly discuss whether the 10x programmer was real.

@pcbo Amazing! With meetups (in general) struggling to have good audiences, seeing a room packed is really special!

@pashov I'm afraid the code was written by a human and not Claude. Claude was just the tool.

🚨Claude Opus 4.6 wrote vulnerable code, leading to a smart contract exploit with $1.78M loss cbETH asset's price was set to $1.12 instead of ~$2,200. The PRs of the project show commits were co-authored by Claude - Is this the first hack of vibe-coded Solidity code?

@Carnage4Life This is lovely... Imagine a team of 7 with each one having their own readme... In a company of 200 folks with 200 readmes. I can't imagine the onboarding and level collaboration of a situation like this...

Office vs Remote is NOT the core conversation we should be having. Meetings vs async is what we should be talking about. That's the root cause for burnout.

Do you hate SCRUM? Guess what? Nobody cares. For every person hating something, there are a million loving it. Scrum is just an example. There is so much polarizing content on this platform that it is difficult to have real conversations. I fell for this engagement game too in the past. Now I try to express my view in an open way to spark conversation, not a riot! 🤣 Otherwise, why talk about a subject in the first place?

Re. Trunk-based development: No official branches, frequently (hourly or more often?) push/pull directly to trunk. The answer to Иван's question is Feature Flags. Small short-lived branches are okay, but the key phrase, here, is *short*. If it exists more than a day (and even that's suspect), it's too long.

Nat and I are delighted to be investing $100m in Magic.dev, which is building a superhuman software engineer. If a copilot generates $10b of revenue, how much is a colleague worth?

@Carnage4Life And like this Sundar stops being the amazing, top notch, world class CEO and becomes just another guy that led Google during Google's prime... Something that even a janitor (no offense to janitors) would do with a high degree of success.

I'm a capitalist but actually love this idea No reason my future kids would get anything, they didn't work for any of my money, they'll get everything paid until uni education to get them a fair chance but then go get a job and make your own money you spoiled bratssssss

@dhh Am I the only one that thinks the text is missing a lot of NVC (non violent communication) principles? Meetings might be considered harmful... But a text written like that sure doesn't make a lot of good...

This is what consistency looks like. That new Basecamp feature, Move The Needle, traces a direct line to our meetings-last approach from the early 2000s. Twenty years of saying and doing the same damn things to reap those compounding benefits of progress.
