Anyone organizing a search should NOT use traditional methods until they read the book "An Inclusive Academy". It has reasons to alter standard practices.

@kevinmawright As a result, university administration has grown at 6% annually compared to faculty effort at 2-3%, which of course resulted in a decreasing cost-benefit for students as tuitions rose with costs, but those directly benefiting the students were not given more pay or resources. 2/2

@kevinmawright In the book, "The Fall of the Faculty", it makes the point that university admins largely decide on their own compensation, while their actions do not directly contribution to the university missions of research, teaching, clinical effort, and service. 1/

BREAKING: Large suspected flu outbreak at Patrick Henry high school. Almost 1/2 the school is affected or absent, according to a source familiar with the situation. @nbcsandiego School has 2200 students total 😳

@JamesSurowiecki The team that won the World Series was always the team hot in October. Now it is the hottest team out of 12 instead of 2, 4, or 8. While I do miss pennant races, there are today few who remember.

The bigger point is that there's no good reason (other than money, of course) for every sport to follow the "we need lots of playoff series to determine the best team" model. Baseball teams play 162 games. That's more than enough games to determine the best team(s) in the league.

There was, in retrospect, something cool about the World Series always featuring the two teams with the best records in their leagues.

@elonmusk is complicated. He has done a lot of great things that have changed the world for the better. And also some "less than smart" things, shall we say Now measuring CO2 to manage ventilation. Maybe he realizes that the less smart things were due to high CO2? #covidCO2
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@karpathy True. I have a CO2 monitor on my desk. It beeps whenever ppm>1000.

@PPC96784706 All science can be demonstrated to be wrong at some point in the future as new data arises. But the onus is on humankind to do the best we can with the science we have today. 2/2

@PPC96784706 Nonsense. We SHOULD rely in part on opinions from experts, like Marsha Wills-Karp, who has an h-index of >70 and has spent her career studying the environmental contributions to the immune response. 1/

@PPC96784706 I was paraphrasing the interview. I think a detailed understanding of the tradeoffs would be better referred to the interview, than to my summary.

@_stah "virii are only harmful" might be the most absurd thing I have ever seen you say. How can you even say such a thing when we know endogenous retroviruses make up about 8% of the human genome? What arrogance to think we completely understand human interactions with virii.

@_stah These numbers show more people die than go to the ICU. How is that possible?

@Ikat0 @NatureInTheory @joeyfox85 In the transient response, yes. In steady state, no. And that sums up the difficulty in one-size-fits all recommendations for air handling. Room volume and occupancy matter in slightly different ways and a true solution requires solving a differential equation.
