@schultek_dev Very cool! Do you have a sense of how far one can get with this approach? Are there things that would make this easier to do in Dart?

Over the holidays I'm experimenting a bit with writing the same UI code for both Flutter and Jaspr. Results are suuper early, but here's a sneak peak.

@CFDevelop @_eseidel If you use Dart with dart:js_interop or package:web, then you *should* be able to access any JS apis the same way , regardless of whether you are using dart2js or dart2wasm. But your Dart code should start up and run faster compiled to wasm.

I wonder if we need to make a hybrid VM that supports both Dart and JS with a unified GC to make Dart on the server truly awesome. The JS server ecosystem would be really nice to have access to.

@CFDevelop @_eseidel Right. That said, we're finding the cost of JS<=>Wasm on V8 (Chrome/Node) to be very low, and Wasm is getting us closer to native speeds. In the long run, I think it'll make sense to compile Dart to Wasm in environments like these and interop into JS (DOM, React, etc).

@_eseidel @_vsmenon The thing about wasm is that the DOM is a JS thing. If you wanna access the DOM, you need JS and that’s why React is not completely a wasm tech.

@_eseidel @CFDevelop I was responding to your "hybrid VM" / "unified GC" comment. :-) Node/V8 with JS and Wasm is already a pretty good version of that. Compiling Dart to Wasm instead of JS is (typically) more performant. I think the right building blocks to build more "seamless" interop.

@_vsmenon @CFDevelop What I'm imagining is seemless interop, both at compile time and runtime. I want to just write import 'npm/stripe.js' and be able to call JS code from Dart and subclass JS classes, etc.

@CFDevelop @_eseidel Wasm (and dart2wasm) is perhaps the better option here. Node should support both JS and Wasm and modern Dart/JS interop should "just work".

@_eseidel That’s already possible. The Dart transpiler already exists. Actually, it wouldn’t be difficult at all to sit the transpiler on top of node

@ThomasBurkhartB @mraleph @JayMLang @pythonhubdev @RydMike @nank1ro @gawronlucas I'm not that familiar with F#, but I think their discriminated unions would map to sealed classes in Dart. I don't think F# supports untagged unions like `int | String`.

It would be so cool if #Flutterdev Buttons would accept an optional ValueListenable<bool> for there enabled state, than we could directly pass command_it's .canRun property

@ThomasBurkhartB @mraleph @JayMLang @pythonhubdev @RydMike @nank1ro @gawronlucas Just to elaborate a bit, it's really hard to keep a type system fast and sound in the presence of union types - at least for a Dart-like language. I'm not sure I've seen anyone really pull that off, and those properties (fast, sound) are ones we want to keep.
