@bobingtonus Hi Rob. If elected, will Simon Dubbins provide members with a vote on affiliation to Labour?

When I was elected, I promised to take our union #BackToTheWorkplace. To put money back in the pockets of Unite members.

@jsp1747 @aRoutineSearch would say this basically covers my view on that. Of course, anyone who's saying GPEW has the makings of an anticapitalist party is naive. x.com/Dykeocletian/s…
chloe@Dykeocletian

@0jzk4 I think it's worth distinguishing between entryism with the aim of capturing a party, and entryism with the aim of carrying out political education in sites where there's a high concentration of, for want of a better term, "baby socialists".

It really is weird how many of the people who love to go on about Militant and the success it had via entryism into the capitalist Labour Party, will in the same breath decry any effort to do entryism into the Green Party.

@Dykeocletian On a local level, we have had open and detailed discussions with “Greens Organise” activists. Sadly, their attitude towards austerity was the same as Labour councillors (ie, no actual opposition, “just do what we’re told”) — but of course I acknowledge this is just 1 example

@Dykeocletian I agree it’s a worthwhile discussion, and it’s possible that some Green members could be won over to a socialist programme. I’m in SP and we have regular discussions on the political and tactical approach to exploring this: maybe not entryism but general orientation to GPEW…

@Dykeocletian The Labour Party meetings, and democratic processes in the 70s and 80s were very different to Green Party in 2026. I’m not sure your point really stands given the completely different scale, composition and nature of the things you’re trying to compare.

@Dykeocletian This may be true now, but the Militant’s entryism stopped in 1991. In the 70’s & 80s there was much higher Union density. And crucially, the relationship between the Labour Party, Trade Unions, and the class was very different then compared to now.

@mjdaly57 @ChrisCorney1 @unitetheunion That’s simply not true S Graham hasn’t been perfect, we’ll agree on that. But under her leadership, Unite have had many disputes against the Labour government, and Unite has slashed their funding to Lab. We should welcome this new pledge to let the members decide on affiliation

@JaneParshally @ChrisCorney1 @unitetheunion Because it’s not her decision to make, it has to be a result of Unite’s democratic processes Even though this is a slow process, we should welcome this clear commitment that we will get a vote on stay/go. The other candidate (Dubbins) won’t give clear answers on this key topic

Let the members decide! Labour affiliation… Should we keep it? Or end it? Unite’s record of winning industrial fights has been very good under Sharon Graham’s leadership. Couple that record with this pledge to deliver democracy for members - and support Sharon Graham #unite
Sharon Graham@UniteSharon

Labour needs policies and a programme of real change, not just a personality makeover. I will ensure Unite reps and members get a vote on whether they want us to stay affiliated to Labour. That work is now beginning and I will inform our Rules Conference in 2027.

@AnnieMM_M @UniteSharon I’m a Unite member, working in the NHS. Starmer’s govt is making huge cuts; literally thousands of redundancies and millions of pounds going into the private sector. Sharon is right to say that members should decide whether *our* union keeps or ends the Labour affiliation.

@UniteSharon Shameful Sharon. Helping reform all the way instead of supporting this govt with it’s achievements so far (workers rights, renters rights, support for children and young people etc) and more being implemented. Letting down us all. #StandWithStarmer 🌹

Sunderland’s season went under the radar I think. Getting Europa league as a promoted side is some achievement, when was the last time that was done?

@aRoutineSearch @Uniteanation @SimonDubbins67 Good luck getting an answer. They’re not going to be open about something so unpopular. The United Left/Members United/ReUnite the Union/Dubbins have been tying themselves up in knots giving an answer to this question for the last year until you really press them.

Our union needs a new start. I’m announcing my candidacy in the election of Unite General Secretary. Let’s end the divisions, take the fight to Farage, and get back to doing what we do best, winning for members. Be part of our campaign: Simon4GS.org.uk

@gmbarnard22 Dewsbury is right on the platform, and top tier. Huddersfield has two, but Kings Head is the best.

anyone got any train station pubs they particularly like. Bonus if they're right on the platform e.g doncaster, york. I think so far i've been to those plus preston, but there's a little one at knaresborough that looks quite nice

@bat020 @cymrurouge Yeah this is about right from what active Unite members & reps are saying. Drubbin is “Stick with Labour”. Dreadful position when it’s a Labour government and Labour councils attacking hundreds of thousands of Unite members’ jobs / pay / conditions. Have to back Sharon Graham

@Uniteanation @SimonDubbins67 Hi, I’m in an NHS branch. I suppose that’s relevant because the NHS is the biggest employer in the country. I can see from your timeline that you’re promoting Simon Dubbins. Are you willing to answer the question on this issue please?

@SamuraiApology @JackMac_82 Speaking to active members & reps in Unite, it seems he’s pro-Labour, and would seek to uphold Unite’s affiliation to Labour. Hopefully he is defeated; and the newly-elected left EC continues the positive industrial direction taken under SG, while pushing for disaffiliation

🚨Exc: Unite has just called its election for General Secretary Simon Dubbins, Unite’s international director, is running against current GS Sharon Graham, who is seeking a second term He says the union needs a ‘new start’ to ‘take the fight to Farage’ ‘Our union has a unique responsibility and obligation to reunite working people and take the fight to Farage. Our political priority will be stopping a Reform government.’

@Ad4mM00rby @CelticFC You’re right, it’s a shit situation to be in. But at the end of the day, he’s used his hand to control the ball in the box…. And so by the letter of the law, it’s a pen. I’m not a Celtic supporter, but I can’t agree that it’s “corruption”.
