Europeans don’t compete to get up the earliest because it’s performative and absurd. There’s literally no reason to get up at 4:30 unless you absolutely have to.
Europeans understand that life happens in the afternoons or in the evening, not in the middle of the night.

@txgermanbre You have to distinguish between Ehegattensplitting (ie determining the tax ratio as the average of the spouses' incomes) and Steuerklassen (ie taxes deducted during the year). A choice of III/V can make it look like one income gets taxed more, but that's an artefact.

I deep dived into this and even wrote an article but never published because of fear and intimidation on this platform after a viral thread. It is depressing. It is horrible to look at that data as a woman. Germany very intentionally keeps women out of the full time laborforce ☹️
