As a founder CEO, I want to get better sleep at night so that I have a clear mind to deal with the problems keeping me up at night. There’s the user story. Anyone building this please? 😅

@BrianRoemmele 👍 Brian. The mechanism here isn’t that stimulation improves memory, it’s that deep non-REM sleep improves memory and stimulation improves deep sleep. People can get this benefit today, safely and non-invasively - trysomnee.com ⚡️🧠😴

@tomeghale @ashleymayer Products like the Philips SmartSleep or the old Zeo sleep tracker use EEG headbands to measure a subset of the signals used in actual sleep studies. An EEG-based headband would obviously be closer to gold standard than something that goes on your finger usa.philips.com/c-e/smartsleep…

I got an Oura ring in September and made some dramatic lifestyle changes in response to terrifyingly low deep sleep readings (how am I even alive let alone functioning??). Oura recently introduced a new algorithm and my deep sleep is…totally fine? 🤣

Don’t ask how people are doing, ask how they are sleeping. You’ll learn a lot more.

Pixar's first 10 films (excl. sequels) were: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, and Brave. All absolute bangers/classics, no misses. Has there ever been another instance of such immediate+sustained excellence?

@vijaypande @daisydwolf @a16z @a16zBioHealth Great analysis! Sleep is the ideal starting point for DTC payvidor— built in consumer out of pocket market, massively underserved by big healthcare, and directly tied to every other aspect of physical and mental health.

In fact the recipe for having the most founders is simply to be (a) a great science and engineering school (b) in a place with lots of startups. The latter accounts for the difference between e.g. Stanford and CMU, not something Stanford does to prepare founders.

This ranking of universities looks roughly correct. The big mistake in the article is the claim that the higher ranked universities are better at "producing" founders. pitchbook.com/news/articles/…

I hear from @try_somnee customers every week that are *highly* motivated to reduce their use of sleeping pills. People really dislike those things and are desperate for safe, easy, effective alternatives
JCSM Journal@JCSMJournal

Study in JCSM found a decline in use of #medications for sleep disturbance between 2015 and 2018, with particularly decreasing trends in older adults. Findings suggest a possible shift in the ways #sleep disturbance is treated. bit.ly/3SHxken #sleephealth #hypnotics

With hindsight “consumption vs productivity” was lazy, fixed mindset framing. Digital consumption and digital productivity were both growing by orders of magnitude during the tablet boom.

Great thread! I accepted a PM job with Amazon devices (just Kindle at the time) the same week Apple announced the iPad. Friends thought it was the end of Amazon devices. ~9 months later Jeff greenlit the tablet program and we built the Kindle Fire.

@Casey Casey we are a startup with Matt Walker (@sleepdiplomat the Ted speaker below) as an advisor. We invented a new type of sleep aid that uses brain stimulation to improve sleep duration. Maybe you should give it a try, shipping soon @try_somnee | trysomnee.com
