Parakh 1960. Like many of Salil Chowdhury's iconic Hindi compositions, the original tune was released in Bengali first. Titled "Na Jeo Na," it was also sung by Lataji and became a major hit in 1959. When once asked in an interview which single song she would take with her to a desert island, Lataji famously chose "O Sajna Barkha Bahar Aayi." Legend has it that Salil Chowdhury composed this soft, romantic melody while caught in a torrential downpour. The rhythm of the song is said to have been inspired by the swishing wipers of his Ambassador car. Picturised on Sadhna. Lyrics Shailendra.

A classic song by Mannadey from the 1969 movie Talash. O. P. Ralhan initially didn't want Manna Dey to sing this complex classical song and requested Mukesh. However, music director S.D. Burman stood his ground firmly, insisting that Mukesh could not handle the classical intricacies of the track and that only Manna Dey could do it. The song is a brilliant fusion. While the vocals are based on the Hindustani classical Raag Chhayanat, the accompanying instruments (like the Mridangam and Sitar) feature a strong Carnatic classical influence. Lyrics Majrooh. "Indian civilisation"? Jaishankar is back at stealing ancient Pakistan’s history. Panini and his brother Pingala were both born in modern-day Punjab & KP provinces of Pakistan. The Chandra Sutra - foundational to the binary system that the digital world runs on - was conceived and enriched at Taxashila University in Taxila, Pakistan. There was nothing "Indian" about it - let alone the "Indian nation-state". This was the Gandhara civilization, now in Pakistan. And as someone from the vicinity of Gandhara, I find it insulting that Jaishankar - hailing from thousands of miles away in Tamil Nadu - shamelessly kangs onto my land’s achievements. Tamil Nadu is as distant from Taxila as Russia. Jaishankar's baseless kanging is as absurd as I kanging onto Russian history would be.
Shashank Mattoo@MattooShashank

“Indian civilisation created the idea of the code which runs our modern tech age. The digital era runs on the binary system. Its roots can be actually traced to Pingala’s Chandra Sutra. The rhythm of our ancient verses was algorithmic,” says S Jaishankar at the UN

A Dehati deep down in South Indian can pronounce तक्षशील properly while an educated Pakistani still pronounce it as Taxila. You are a bastard product of your Abbus from Middle East and now trying to improve your lineage with Heritage of Aryas.

So map shows the region of modern day Pakistan but no Saar! It was all India at once Saar! Bhai Pakistan was created out of British India. We are talking about the lineage of modern day Pakistani state back in the day

Trump should be sent to the gallows for the hardship he has brought for the world with his ego-fuelled Iran war trip. Countries in Asia that rely on fuel and fertiliser imports are under a massive crisis. What's even more infuriating is that the discourse around the war is stuck on whether Americans are going to feel the pinch of paying a dollar more for their gas. India has managed well so far, but look at the others in our periphery. Some are struggling to keep the lights on. There has to be a reckoning.
Prof. Steve Keen@ProfSteveKeen

With fertilizer, this planet feeds 8.5 billion people. Without it, we can feed around 2 billion. We have just disrupted 30% of global fertilizer supply through the Strait of Hormuz. And people are still talking about this as if it is an oil story. It is not an oil story. It is a food story. And the numbers do not care about politics. Watch the full breakdown: youtube.com/watch?v=l0oHnw… #FoodSecurity #Fertilizer #StraitOfHormuz #GlobalFoodCrisis #SteveKeen #Economics

In celebration of Didi leaving Bengal, Usha Uthup had fun by singing ‘Didi Go.’ It should be remembered that during the TMC regime, cut money was allegedly demanded from her for her performances, due to which she became troubled and moved to Mumbai. Now she has returned 🫡

Filled out the self-enumeration for the household census. The questions are quite interesting. You'd expect there to be questions like whether we are living in a flat or a house, but there aren't. Instead there are these.

@ProfVemsani Baps temples ( based on my experience in Delhi ) have no God , it’s a scared space open to all . You can do some sort of Archana of you want ( it’s paid ) and it’s in a small space . It’s very peaceful and open and no one asks anyone anything leave alone caste. She hasn’t been !

Instead of answering the question she raised you just attack her with “privilege”jibes to corner her and silence her. The discussion began with the allegation “only Brahmins allowed into garbhagriha” which is not true. It’s only the priests (may or may not be a Brahmin) that are allowed into garbhagriha and anyone invited by the priest. Even regular Brahmins just like all others have to stand in the antarala (the front mandapa) to offer worship and receive blessings. Attacking anyone questioning your allegations as “privileged” is not the answer.
Yashica Dutt@YashicaDutt

Glad you had the privilege and opportunity to grow up in New York, Snigdha. I mean, given how a majority of the Indian American population in the US is upper caste, it makes sense. Dalits could barely come here until one or two decades ago. Happy to see you acknowledge it.
