@311DCgov @DCDPW @BrianneKNadeau 45 days since I requested a replacement recycling cart (43 days since I paid). Still no cart. Have sent multiple messages in 311 portal with no response. Spoke to @dcdpw customer service rep who just said it would come - no date. Help!

Eliminating the Pay Equity Fund means child care programs raising already unaffordable tuition to keep from slashing salaries or an exodus of educators in a sector struggling to find & retain them. Less stability & continuity of care for kids, more work disruptions for parents.

And it feels all the more demoralizing when you see the equivalent increases to MPD+DYRS (h/t @EduardoRFerrer). Again, I realize there are tough choices to be made in a tight budget year, but it's hard to rationalize the message this sends about what we're investing in.

We knew that this was going to be a tough budget year. But this one-two punch eliminating the #PayEquityFund and cutting the childcare subsidy by $10M is devastating. High quality childcare is the engine of our economy and the foundation for thriving children and families.
Tazra Mitchell@TazraMitchell

The Mayor's budget essentially eliminates the Pay Equity Fund for a mostly Black and brown woman workforce caring for young children, burning it/the progress we've made to the ground. So damn shameful.

Before this site implodes, here’s a plug for a new book by @MikeZamore and @SenJeffMerkley. Wanna understand how we got to the dysfunctional Senate of today - and how to fix it? Engaging, sometimes enraging, and very enlightening. Amazon pre-order link: a.co/d/6TyGQY6

@Pteromama Yes! And you could run through the zoo early in the morning. And pop in with the kids whenever the mood struck.

. @DCDPW @311DCgov What’s the rationale for not accepting anything other than HHW & electronics at the Benning transfer sta on Saturdays? Seems crazy we need to make 2 trips to the same place. We were right there w/a carful of stuff, half of which we have to bring back on Wed 😔

I think I’ll get a new bumper sticker: Proud parent of two graduates of DC’s inmate factories.

Nat'l Ds could have stood up for democracy & taken Rs to task for their wholesale opposition to sensible, popular gun reform - opposition which has led to there being more guns than people in the US & immeasurable human trauma. (2/5)

In the 36 days since the House disapproval res was intro'd, there have been at least 54 mass shootings nationwide. In DC, while crime is at historic lows, gun violence has increased since 2017. The problem is the proliferation of illegal guns not the revised criminal code. (1/5)
Eduardo Ferrer@EduardoRFerrer

Violent crime in DC in 2022 was the lowest its been in at least 30 years. Violent crime in DC is down nearly 20% yoy so far. Congress moving to override the will of the people of DC is not about violent crime or crime policy. It's about power & control.

@maustermuhle @timkaine @MarkWarner @ChmnMendelson @MayorBowser You’re either for DC home rule or you’re not. Putting aside the light-on-facts hysteria driving this debate, the reality is that senators would be out of their minds if Congress did this to their states (many of which currently have lighter sentences than the DC’s revised code)

The Senate debate on the measure that would block D.C.'s bill that overhauls the city's criminal code is now starting.
