A bunch of Argentine fans began insulting and harassing a man for wearing a Mexico shirt.
He burst out laughing, showed them a red card, started dancing, and took off the Mexican shirt to reveal a Spain shirt underneath.

@AncestralRetard @seemoose27 Magic cards are always game pieces to me first, but I think that they also can convey narrative visually, verbally, and mechanically is one of the special things about the game. Frankly my issue is that the way they do it lately is low-rent from an artistry perspective.

At one time, MTG was grounded in the idea that the cards represented two wizards dueling with spells. The UB sets are completely divorced from that foundation, leaving the flavor of the game adrift in a capitalist hellscape. I genuinely dont think its a fixable problem.

@NLi10 @seemoose27 if im being kind to hasbro (which im loathe to do), its understandable decision given the cultural zeitgeist at the time...marvel was the biggest thing around. In retrospect if they realized that what they had was special, authentic, and compelling we'd all be better off....

@itsbasilbasil I am so mid at this game but I look at the screen and use my ears, and I wipe cryo 1 or 2 times a weekend. its not that people aren't skilled they just aren't willing to actually play the game. they just want to jam and hope the gama hands them a dub.

I think people severely overestimate the skill level of the average gamer because not to be rude but who the fuck thinks the average person is capable of wiping a lobby in an extraction shooter

No, seriously, I started this incredibly skeptical during the free week ONLY because my girlfriend was insistent that I give it a try with her. I was hesitant cuz I hadn't done shooters in ages. Now I'm obsessed with the lore and the gunplay, helping curbstomp and getting got.

Okay I've spent almost 100 hours in Marathon the past two weeks, anybody that says Marathon isn't one of the coolest games to come out this year is lying to you. At base, yeah, sure, it's your average extraction shooter. THE FUCKING LORE IS SO COOL. THE MAPS ARE INCREDIBLE.

@the_jeffers @wizards_magic @StarTrek they are trying to appea' to a general audience who know what star trek is as a cultural object, but not necessarily deep fans of the franchise. To that end, Kirk and Spock are the most recognizable faces; not Picard or Sisko or Janeway

@wizards_magic @StarTrek An aside: It seems to me that Star Trek marketing often minimises Kirk. He is conspicuously absent from many a promotional poster or anniversary celebration. Yet in all the Magic stuff I've seen he has been front and centre.
Is that because WotC are making the decision here?

The barrier to entry for FaB will cause its downfall long term. Like how can you even justify playing a smaller niche game when decks are 5 times more expensive than your competitors and they have better prizing? Stagnation leads to decay.

@Xiongmao_29 @puppydog_gaming in modern not as many of the cards get through, and generally speaking we are spared the worst of it...on top of that we are more mechanics focused. Not to say I like seeing it on the cards but im more locked in on the game piece and thats a common sentiment

@puppydog_gaming Me and most people I play with are full cold turkey on UB since spider man but it's easier cause we are commander players I feel bad for 60 card gamers
