The average wholesale price of eggs so far in 2025 has been record-setting, jaw-dropping $3.41 a dozen. That's almost a dollar higher than the price of eggs in 2024 (another record), and nearly FOUR TIMES the typical wholesale price of eggs before 2022, which was around $1 a dozen. Next year, even though egg prodution is back to normal, the USDA projects that wholesale egg prices will hover around $2 a dozen. That's the new "normal" Yglesias is celebrating –– and it's double the old normal. Did I mention it only costs around $0.80 cents to produce a dozen eggs?
