Matt isn’t this dumb. He’s just pretending to be. Every “non-partisan” redistricting committee set up by Democrats has been loaded with left-wingers who do their bidding, and such a system nationally would inevitably produce the same results.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

Again, if Republicans want to stop partisan gerrymandering they should vote for Democrats’ proposal for a national ban on partisan gerrymandering. If they don’t want to stop it, then stop whining.

Why do I need a verification code to log into my car insurance provider? Is someone going to try to log in and pay it for me?

@C_Kavanagh @EPoe187 @sentientist This is because he's lying. There is no difference between the terms. "Population" is literally just a euphemism for "race", as is "breed", "nation", or even "family".

That's ok. My point in the article was not that Reich agrees with me but rather that he was unfair to Nicholas Wade and that his claim that race differences would not correspond to stereotypes is remarkably implausible--indeed borderline ludicrous. (Does anyone really believe that we'll find that Ashkenazi Jews are genetically dull? That Scandinavians are short? That African Pygmies are tall?) I cannot divine Reich's private beliefs, nor did I try to. I do think that his (and others') research on recent human evolution supports positions that I've defended since 2015 or so (and that many other scholars have as well). Of course, it doesn't confirm any particular claim. But the evidence for HBD is becoming overwhelming. At any rate--I'm sure we still disagree. Which is fine. Always happy to read good arguments against my views.

I don’t know if have the strength to check to see if Health Nerd has responded to this. Has he?
Benjamin Ryan@benryanwriter

I recently got into an agonizing back-and-forth with Health Nerd @GidMK about the new Finnish study that suggested youths on gender-transition drugs worsen psychologically. He wasn't listening to a word I said, so I asked the study's senior author detailed questions about the paper, as well as a Swedish expert on the subject, and published their responses in this Q&A. I hope their words will help people better understand the nuances and complexities of this research. The Author of the Controversial Finnish Study on Youth Gender Care Responds to Critics benryan.substack.com/p/the-author-o… A new study found a surge in psych care typically reserved for severe mental health problems following gender-transition interventions in youth—prompting sharp pushback from transgender advocates.

I remember at the time people responded to me by saying a party can't just "cede" an election. Well, no, not "cede" it. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying the Dems could have refrained from doing all the crazy s#it they did in the build-up to that election; their position today would be stronger if they'd refrained.

I said this at the time: if the Democrats had just calmed tf down in 2020 and let Trump be a normal two-termer like all previous presidents going back to 1992, then he'd have been done in 2024 and Pence would have lost badly in the election that year. 2024-32 is the Amy Klobuchar Era (or whatever) in this scenario. Instead, by forcing the '20 election down a politically unnatural, excessively "tryhard" path (mail-ins, riots, etc), the Democrats manufactured what may wind up being a 16-year or even 20-year Trump Era, if Vance has success.

By the time he leaves office, Trump will have been a dominant force in US political life for just under 5% of the nation’s history

This essay is such a treat and summarizes precisely many of my feelings. Shooting is a much more meditative and cerebral hobby than the non-initiated—who often seem to picture some kind of bacchanal of simulated violence—seem to imagine. It’s also, very obviously, wildly fun.

@ContraPoints My comment was about Hutch but I'm very glad! Your Instagram statement about it was, however, pretty disappointing. I look forward to you having discussions about this in the future and hope to see your messaging on the subject center the victims of genocide rather than us.

I don't think it's sunk in how insane it is that an American vice president was promoting a man who banned his opponent from appearing on TV.

David Polansky@polanskydj

This entire discussion is another sign of decadence: liberals tired of their own liberalism, desperate to feel something, so as with their overvaluation of the alt-right they seek out whatever elicits that frisson of excitement without consideration of intellectual value.
