Opened on October 1, 1988, as Disney World’s first Moderate resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort was built on a massive scale with villages surrounding a 45-acre lake called Barefoot Bay. It sits on more than 200 acres, making it one of the largest resorts on Walt Disney World property by land area. Caribbean Beach has the largest rooms among Disney’s Moderate resorts (340 sq ft), noticeably bigger than the average at resorts like Port Orleans. Some rooms sleep up to 5 guests with fold-down trundle beds. Each original guest room building was designed with exactly 64 rooms. The resort originally had six villages (Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, Martinique, Trinidad North, and Trinidad South), each with buildings in distinct Caribbean-inspired colors. The Barbados section was demolished to make room for Disney’s Riviera Resort. Caribbean Beach has 7 pools total. The main pool (Fuentes del Morro) is a large Spanish fortress-themed feature pool with zero-entry access, water cannons, two waterslides (one is 102 feet long), and a separate kids’ water play area.
