The government must bring a cap on ground rents at £250 in by “late 2027” the Housing Committee has said after reviewing the draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill Also calling for a quicker transition to zero ground rent - in 20 as opposed to the 40 years suggested by govt And regulation of property management agents with an independent regulator with “teeth to sanction” those who behave badly Committee chair @FloEshalomi urges govt to introduce the final bill by autumn this year

Its great to see the scrutiny panel pushing hard for leasehold reform and commonhold to be brought forward ASAP! They also agree with me that 40yrs sunset clause is a " till death do us part" clause which perpetuates leasehold for over 40 years. Now?? Now we need @mtpennycook to take all their recommendations on board sooner rather than later. @NLC_2019

When a PR firm launches a lobbying group claiming to represent small investors and pensioners that oppose reform of confiscatory Leasehold law, you’d expect them to name a few members. If they won’t, odds are that those ‘small’ investors don’t exist.

@OK1Lon @Hillingdon If Ian Edwards looked further afield he'd see examples of many councils across the country which have already passed motions to recognise Parliament's cross-party consensus on leasehold reform and support it. Even the GLA are making noises about leasehold reform.

@OK1Lon @Hillingdon Many years ago we approached @Hillingdon_Tory to ask they support all leaseholders in the borough and follow cross-party support in Parliament. They weren't interested. Hardly surprising to see the national party falling flat. Badenoch, Cleverly and Simmonds silent on leasehold.
