Here’s a quick anecdote. At a Christmas market, I stopped to buy bresaola — a childhood favourite — while with a Muslim couple. Husband: “That’s not halal.” Me: “It’s beef.” Husband: “Still not halal.” Me: “I like it, so I’ll have it.” That moment says a lot about the tensions we don’t like to talk about in Britain.
