Just been confirmed that Archie Vaughan will be an injury replacement for Lewis Goldsworthy (hamstring injury) but he won’t be able to bowl @SomersetCCC @bbcbristolsport

@CleaveO @fcmad1960 @antgib @SomersetCCC @bbcbristolsport Agreed - however, cricket should move towards substitutions, given concussion & the like, as it’s one of the few team sports that does not have them, & inexplicably ALL players are asked to do ALL disciplines. So yes, if a sub is to take place, it’s there & then, not a day late.

Nah it was run-down bought 135K put about 30K into it and I knew inflation was coming so did a long term fixed 1.9% rate. Overpaying each month what can so when fixed-rate ends the jump is reduced. I did something similar when young and paid mortgage off by age 40, then began throwing a lot into pension to bypass tax. Kids these days have way too high expectations, we had packed lunches and flask at work and biked to work and shared houses while saving up deposit.

@acfisken @DanNeidle She is unpleasant and does herself no favours. But still, if I don't own a house, I don't expect it to be counted against me for SDLT. And since I don't expect it, I won't go reading complex government websites about it, nor raise it with my conveyancer

@DanNeidle I feel a bit sorry for Rayner. I can see why the law is what it is, but I think if a trust owns a property it is an innocent mistake to assume you are not liable for additional SDLT. I do remember being impressed by other of your investigating. You will find likes from me on X

FACT: A quarter of all male professional cricketers (101), who grew up in England & Wales, went to just 23 independent schools. 🏏🧑‍🎓 Which ones are best at developing England players? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@Mendelpol When I was growing up I dreamed of a TV channel which would cover county cricket and have a red button to take you around the grounds. So appreciative that it has come to pass, and for free!

Coverage of county cricket on YouTube and across socials is absolutely brilliant. Fair play to all the counties, and the County Championship generally. Making it accessible and engaging is absolutely the best way of getting people interested. No gimmicks. Just put it out there

This County Championship sub rule is complete nonsense.

@petermansion @JohnRentoul 1. Incorrectly assumed I was referring to Cameron as PM, despite the context. 2. Got easily searchable timelines wrong. 3. Now using copilot. This conversation really isn't worth my while.

@acfisken @JohnRentoul From Copilot... "No publicly available evidence indicates that Lord David Cameron “rejected” a Chagos deal. What the record shows is more nuanced — he continued the Conservative‑era negotiations but did not finalise them before the 2024 election."

Chagos deal was a terrible one, but Tories wildly exaggerate cost at £35bn over 99 years; it was approx £10bn, adjusted for inflation

@elEmmerson @Fox_Claire @DamCou @DavidDPaxton @BoozeAndFagz He ‘won’ when he pointed out that he pays full tax in the UK and he didn’t need to say anything else. He shouldn’t bully and intimidate a small young woman - her ghastliness or not is irrelevant to this. Obviously, it’s crap of her to tell lies if that’s what she did.

@adarshisit @jfwduffield Not many people have 68 test wickets and 4 five wicket hauls at 22. He spins it, great release point and good variation. If he gets the accuracy (usually the easiest thing to develop) he'll be a very good bowler.

@acfisken @jfwduffield You won't be needing a spinner anywhere outside the subcontinent anyway. Root or Bethell do the job for you. He was overlooked by the Key regime. I think both Ahmed and Bashir were severely overrated.

@HCH_Hill Shop assistant from 96-21 here. About 10-12 years ago, supermarket companies started cutting back on Loss Prevention officers and daytime staff as they thought it was cheaper to write stock off as theft than to pay for prevention and enforcement thecritic.co.uk/how-procedure-…

@adarshisit @jfwduffield Hartley's not a red ball spinner outside of the sub continent. I don't think Bess was mismanaged, just lost form. Looks a more consistent bowler now than when he was picked. If I were England selector I'd be planning around the Ahmed boys though.

@acfisken @jfwduffield Agreed. But I don't think he's been dealt with the best way, Bess that is. Showed lots of promise in India. Same with Hartley.

@jfwduffield Almost all of them are too old. Bess wasn't groomed well when they'd the opportunity to.
