I think probably the best indication the stock market is over heated
Is that everyone in real estate would rather just invest their own money in the stock market rather than investment real estate at the moment
The tax consequences of this are not great, but the stock market won’t call you in the middle of the night about a leaking pipe 😅

I know a guy. High net worth (~$20M) and high income earner ($500k/yr). Owns real estate. Sold his SMB and will have to pay $1M+ in taxes. Rather than deal with the “brain damage” of finding a good real estate deal (he’s picky) and then overseeing or operating the illiquid asset, he’d rather just pay Uncle Sam. “Do you think I care if I have to pay $1M to Uncle Sam? I can’t take the money with me to the grave, and I have plenty. I’d rather just buy a little gold, silver and put the rest in a broad based index fund like $SPY. It may go down, it may go up, but think I care over 20-25 years?” Is he wrong? Maximum wealth or maximum peace of mind?
