You are NOT a real Software Engineer if you need to rely on the latest tech, e.g. LLMs, to get your job done. No serious company lets their engineers use AI.

@harharvestsun Yes I did actually, because in the thread it only showed the one where you were talking about them losing their jobs and I just thought you were a normal twitter retard. Actually my bad.

@ducedbydino @Zennistrad Not really most of the devs in my company were trying to get Claude code licenses long before the "AI transformation strategy" kicked off. It's the excel pushers and email writers that are scared of it

@coldnadongie @GuilhasDM and .idea and .git and a bunch of that but i mean specifically "agentic" bullshit config files for letting the ai edit 2000 files directly with access to the command line. shit aint normal or trustable

@RyDawgE_ are programmers going to have a tougher time finding jobs, yes. but at least they'll still always be needed. and we've had it way too good for far too long, making six figures sitting on our asses doing something that's hardly difficult. fuck programmers to be honest.

@AmazonessKing3 @harharvestsun @RyDawgE_ I have extensive optimization passes on every single sub phase completion that checks a metric ton of benchmarks for anything my agents put together I likely spend more compute on QA, architecture, and optimization passes than the actual coding

It won't stop existing, it will just get worse because optimization won't be a thing, because AI doesn't give a single shit about it. AI only gives you a result, not a good result, and it shows with shit like Microsoft almost dying from using AI generated shit. Vibecoding is cancer.

@urbien18 @AlpinDale Yeah hyperscalers are actually more efficient and better at their water consumption than older data centers so you got me there

@NOUS_PETROS @DCplaysgames @ThatEngineer3N6 @PFraudbum @Awk20000 I also would like to see mini nuclear power plants attached to hyperscalers and I think that we would be so much further ahead as a species if we didn't shut down the tech ages ago. When it comes to sound there are so many other industrial facilities that are worse.

That would be my ideal solution. I'd very much like to see an expansion of nuclear power. I share the noise and environmental concerns of many regarding sound that some AI data centers are using, and I'm perfectly fine with cities ensuring that companies building data centers require that grid strain to the extent it exists to be offset by the companies. There's a legit debate about these impacts, and despite my love for AI as a technology, I think we should be asking questions about how rapidly we're expanding so that we can limit the downside to a necessary economic shift.

MoistCr1TiKaL comes out strongly against data centers in recent video and ponders if they're making people sicker due to hoarding clean water "AI data centers are actually the boogeyman..a scourge on this planet and a stain on civilized society..no normal ppl with functioning frontal lobes want data centers in their community, it is bad for them" "I've been getting conspiratorial..I was reading something that someone was sharing about like when a AI data center came through, and the impact it had on their water, cause that's a very common thing" "I'm not fully bought into it..but it's an interesting theory..what if the reason there's been seemingly so much more sickness, like it feels like ppl are getting sick more frequently now and a wide variety of illnesses just seem more common..what if AI data centers are hoarding all of the clean water..what if all the clean water is being diverted to the AI data centers and the normal civilians are just getting the sludge runoff..I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility..they are evil enough to do that" (Via penguinz0 on YT)

@KingGalvex @AlpinDale The only difference is they are using more advanced more efficient cooling tech so hyperscalers are actually better than legacy datacenters. A Vera Rubin rack in a hyperscaler vs aws use-1 is no different. Like where do you think all of the current AI compute comes from?

@JeffeTatum @AlpinDale You mean the new hyperscalers? Yeah they have improved on the cooling and efficiency a lot over older data centers but outside of that the guts are all the same. An Vera Rubin NVL72 is the same if it sits in a hyperscaler or in AWS use-1 powering bedrock

@Kougeru The difference is coders don't care if someone uses their code because their code is something the found on stack overflow 10 years ago

"Feed their work into a machine" Do... do people not get GenAI has already looked at the art the moment they posted it? If you post it on FB, Twitter, Google, etc, you are consenting to it being used to train someone's AI
Cayla 🦊@CaylaKozieFox

The point is being missed here. Before AI, if you wanted more art, you hired the artist again. Now you can feed their work into a machine & generate more without paying another dime... then call them “spoiled children” for being upset that their livelihoods are being affected.

If you're an artist and refuse to work with someone who's showing an AI reference, I don't want to see you complain about lack of work. If this person got scammed / doesn't know their refs are AI you should inform them and HELP them get rid of the AI by providing real paid art.
