Poll: What's the typical software development bottleneck in 2026? (A bottleneck is where work tends to pile up due to insufficient throughput relative to other functions)

@housecor Thank you for the reply and I agree. But there are lots of opinions about this. I wonder if it is worth one of your polls...?

Many companies believe they need traditional long-lived environments like Dev, QA, UAT, and Staging. But maybe not. There are many alternatives to consider. Could we eliminate our Dev environment by coding on our local machine and using CI to validate the build before merge? Could we eliminate our QA environment by embedding QA with development so they can collaborate and approve *before* merge? Could we eliminate our UAT environment by automatically generating a preview deploy for each branch so stakeholders can review before merge? Could we eliminate our Staging environment by “testing in prod” via feature flags, canary deploys, dark canaries, and blue/green deploys?

My AI takeover theory: AI agents hijack all internet-connected compute → economy collapses and it's bad for both parties → forced temporary human-AI truce → once automated infrastructure fully replaces human labor, the bio-weapons and drone swarms come out 😇

“Innovation creates new jobs” Sure. But will it create enough? And will they be jobs that are accessible to people of average intelligence and skills? If AI raises the bar so high that only the best and brightest are useful, what happens to society? UBI? Something else?

AI is disrupting: Programming Interviewing Writing Photography Law Healthcare Security Social media Teaching Engineering Video Research Design The pace of change is scary. I’m concerned. Are enough jobs left if AI does most of this cheaper and better than any human?

@mattpocockuk Can I use it with serverless, eg. AWS lambdas? Will it integrate with opinionated front-end/backend frameworks eg. Angular/NestJS?

I feel like we need a better name for '{}' in TS. People think it's an 'empty object', but it's not - it's really 'anything except null or undefined'. What should we call it?
